100Years Ago – 1920: One man was seriously hurt and another escaped with slight injuries when an automobile of D. Tittlebaum, a Chester merchant, skidded and overturned at Fourth and Hinkson streets. The man most seriously hurt is Joseph Rigley, 208 Snyder Ave., Philadelph­ia. He is a patient in the Chester Hospital with a fractured arm, injured legs and probable internal injuries. The automobile was driven by a man named Bender. Ridley was seated alongside of Bender. Rigley was thrown out and alighted heavily on the sidewalk.

75Years Ago – 1945: The coldest temperatur­es of the season were recorded Tuesday and this morning as Delaware County remained blanketed with the season’s heaviest snowfall. A low of 12 degrees in the early morning hours was reported in outlying sections of the county with the Weather Bureau’s official low at 19 degrees between 5 and 6 a.m. 50Years Ago – 1970: Simple Episcopal funeral services were conducted this morning for Delaware County Judge Henry G. Sweney at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Ninth and Madison streets, Chester. Burial was to be at the family’s convenienc­e in the family plot in Chester Rural Cemetery. About 300 persons attended the church service this morning despite cold weather and heavy rain. On Friday morning, more than 400 persons crowded into Media Courthouse’s Courtroom No. 1 to hear a brief but moving memorial service.

25Years Ago – 1995:

Whoever said hard work never hurt anyone must have been thinking about Nicolette Amicone, who turned 102 on Friday. Her daughter, Felicia Lutz of Drexel Hill, with whom she lived for 35 years before coming to Fair Acres Geriatric Center last June, said she worked hard most of her active life. To mark the century-plus-two milestone occasion, a birthday party, complete with decorated cake, was held for Mrs. Amicone in the wing of the building in which she resides.

10Years Ago – 2010:

Concord supervisor­s approved preliminar­y/final land developmen­t to update the existing Sun East Federal Credit Union, 831 Baltimore Pike. The property, in the Concord Village Overlay District, is one of the first to be developed within the “plaza area.” The goal is to create properties with more of a “village” feel, including sidewalks, buildings closer to the road and parking in the rear.
