COPS SEIZE 12 POUNDS OF SYNTHETIC POT, WEAPON IN RAID
A city man was arrested Friday with more than
12 pounds of “synthetic marijuana” and an assault rifle, according to a joint release from Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky.
Myron Brown, 47, of the
100 block of West 22nd Street, is facing charges of illegally possessing a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to online court records.
Chester Police Officer Timothy Garron executed a search warrant at Brown’s home Friday with members of the Chester Narcotics Unit and the Delaware County Narcotics Task Force, according to the release. Brown was home at the time and was detained in front of the residence, the release says.
Several other people inside the residence at the time were also detained in a living room area and provided Miranda warnings with Brown, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Brown allegedly waived his rights and told officers he had a gun upstairs in his bedroom.
Officer Marc Barag escorted Brown upstairs, where he recovered a FNC 5.56 rifle inside a Tupperware bin, according to the affidavit. Brown also allegedly directed Barag to a white cylinder container 12.27 pounds of what Brown identified as “synthetic weed” and more than $2,000 in a safe in the closet.
Also recovered was a notebook used as a drug sales ledger, two police scanners, a phony shaving cream canister containing 26 packets of suspected crack cocaine, a cocaine press and various paraphernalia associated with drug sales, according to the affidavit.
During the investigation, officers found that Brown is a convicted felon who cannot legally possess a firearm, according to the release. He is also currently out on bail for aggravated assault, strangulation and firearms offenses in a Philadelphia incident, in which Brown allegedly fired a handgun at the victim and fled from Philadelphia police when they attempted to stop his vehicle.
Brown was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge James J. Merkins, who set his bail at 10% of $100,000. He was taken to the county jail in Concord after failing to post bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 16.
