Samuel L. DeVecchis
Samuel L. DeVecchis, resident of Ardmore, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, March 15, 2021. He was born on December 8, 1956 to the late Rosemarie Ziviello and Louis “Ace” DeVecchis.
He is predeceased by aunt, Lucy J. Serin.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Cheryl; children Louis (Cyndi), Danielle, Megan (Joseph), Katelyn, Samuel, Jenn (Kevin), Michael (Natalie), and Kim (Nick); brother Louis; grandchildren Olivia, Isabella, Josephine, Tyler, Nicole, Samantha, Allison, Paul, and Catherine; and great-granddaughter Peyton.
Sam spent his entire law enforcement career serving the citizens of Delaware County including the Sheriff’s Department, the Chester Police Dept. Juvenile Unit, the Brookhaven Police Dept. and the Delaware County Park Police. He was hired by Morton Police in 1987 where he served with honor, professionalism and dedication until his retirement in 2015. Over the course of his career, Sam earned many certificates and hundreds of hours of training related to law enforcement.
Sam was very well known throughout the community (and was too big to miss!). His larger than life personality, sense of humor and acts of kindness made him unforgettable. He always went the extra mile in any case that involved a young person who needed help and was instrumental in forming Morton’s first Youth Aid Panel. Sam was also a member of the Central Delco Tactical Response Team for many years.
Sam enjoyed nothing more than being with his family and spending time down the shore. He always wanted everyone to be comfortable and now it’s his turn. Relax, have a snicky-snack, and rest easy papa bear. Sam will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
There will be visitation from 10am to 12 noon Wednesday at the Toppitzer Funeral Home, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill. Masks and social distancing required. His service at Noon will be for close family and friends. Inurnment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Delaware County FOP Lodge 27 Foundation, 201 N. Jackson Street, Media, PA 19063..
