FIREFIGHTER SUFFERS MEDICAL EVENT AT MARPLE BLAZE:
MARPLE » A firefighter was taken to the hospital from a house fire on the 100 block of Beechtree Drive in Broomall on Sunday.
“Broomall, Manoa and Newtown Square firefighters were dispatched to the blaze about 1:50 Sunday,” said Dannon Voight, captain at Broomall Fire Co. “It was originally a shed, the shed was up against the house, fire in the shed extended into the B side of the house which was an attached garage then into the house.”
Original reports indicated a propane tank was involved. However, it was determined paint cans in the home were exploding. Firefighters used multiple hose line to contain the blaze which was placed under control at 2:35 p.m.
Embers from the blaze ignited debris at a nearby home, but firefighters quickly extinguished that fire.
Video of the fire taken from a drone show firefighters stopping the blaze at the garage and saving most of the home.
As firefighters were checking for extension
and overhauling, a firefighter suffered a medical emergency.
“During the fire a Manoa firefighter suffered a medical event and was treated on the scene by fire and EMS and transported to a local medical facility for ongoing treatment, “said Manoa Chief Michael E. Norman, who thanked those on scene who provided care.
Garrettford Drexel Hill Fire Co. also assisted at the scene.
