Balanced effort carries Bonner-Prendie in opener

Taylor Johnson, Jackie Engler, Allison O’Brien, Kayley DiTrolio and Hailey Bierling were individual winners as Bonner-Prendergst captured the first Catholic League girls track meet of the season.

Johnson won the 100 (12.60). Engler was first in the 400 (1:06.82). O’Brien topped the field in the 3,200 (12:54.29). DiTrolio captured the high jump (4-8) and Bierling finished first in the pole vault (6-6). The Pandas also won the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays to finish with 133 team points.

Sarah Schumacher, Sara Lorenz

and Samantha Sharrow led O’Hara to second place with 119 points. Schumacher won the 200 (28.04). Lorenz was first in the mile (6:23.51) and Sharrow took the long jump (15-1).

Archbishop Carroll finished third with 89 points behind wins from Maura Kane (triple jump, 318) and the 4 x 100 relay (57.26).

Boys Track

Thomas Smith won two events and finished second in a third to help Cardinal O’Hara finish second in the first Catholic League boys track meet of the season.

Smith won the shot put (44 feet, 1 inch) and the javelin (108-9) and took second in the discus (91-3). The Lions dominated the field events as Jordan Cook won the discus (112-5) while pearse McGuinn was first in the high jump (5-8).

Billy Coppock won the long jump (20-2) and Malachi Hansen captured the triple jump (411) to help Archbishop Carroll finish in third behind Father Judge and O’Hara.

Rasheed Thomas

won the 100-meter dash (11.20 seconds) to help the Friars finish fourth.

Golf

Thomas Larkin and Anthony Carson each carded low rounds of 36 in Cardinal O’Hara’s 251-276 victory over Bonner-Prendergas­t at Llanerch Country Club’s par34 course.

Larkin notched seven pars and Carson finished with four pars and a birdie. Ryan Garvey and freshman Ava Hneleski added 43s for the Lions (3-0).

Chris DiRita paced the Friars with a round of 37.

Boys Tennis

Radnor defeated Unionville in a nonleague match, 5-2.

No. 3 singles Garrett Spillerman cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win and No. 2 Ryan Klein earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Radnor’s third and fourth doubles were victorious, too. Graham Bernabeo and Arvav Menon won 6-4, 6-1, while Manato Matsouka and P.J. Duffy notched a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
