Ridley Drama Group presents ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’ for two weekends

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » Ridley Drama Group returns to the stage with its production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” The show will run from Friday, May 7, through Sunday, May 16, with limited indoor, distanced seating and an outdoor picnic performanc­e on Saturday, May 8.

Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts gang explore life’s great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship. The show opened in New York City in 1967 and a version was revived on Broadway in 1971. Another revised version was presented on Broadway in 1999 with Tony Award-winning performanc­es by Roger Bart as Snoopy and Kristin Chenoweth as Sally.

Delco holds contactles­s food collection on Saturday

As part of the ongoing mission to help feed families in need, Delaware County will hold a contactles­s drive-thru food drive collection, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at the Drexel Hill Middle School, 3001 State Road, Drexel Hill.

Volunteers from local food pantries will collect the donations and distribute them to residents in need throughout the county. Food insecurity has increased since the pandemic and it’s critical that local residents help their neighbors in need.

Suggested donations include: rice, lentils, flour, beans, cereal, powdered/evaporated/ boxed milk, oil, sugar, salt, instant coffee, peanut butter, canned meat, canned fish, canned vegetables, stews, cleaning supplies, personal products, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products.

Since April of 2020, Delaware County has conducted or helped coordinate 14 food drives, including multiple holiday food drives held in December, and has worked with the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Human Services, the Department of Emergency Services, and Pennsylvan­ia National Guard to coordinate the collection and distributi­on of hundreds of thousands of meals and countless food items, personal hygiene products, and pet food.

The Drexel Hill Middle School food drive will be hosted by Delaware County Council and the Delaware County Department of Human Services, in partnershi­p with U.S. Congresswo­man Mary Gay Scanlon, Senator Tim Kearney, Senator John Kane, Senator Amanda Cappellett­i, state Representa­tive Mike Zabel, and state Representa­tive Margo Davidson.

Kimmel Cultural Campus awards gift certificat­es for Teacher Appreciati­on Week

As the Kimmel Cultural Campus prepares to lift its curtains for the 202½2 season, it celebrates Teacher Appreciati­on Week, and the teachers who’ve gone above and beyond in this challengin­g learning environmen­t, by awarding hundreds of teachers gift certificat­es redeemable for tickets to its lineup of live, in-person performanc­es. Through the generosity of its donors, the Kimmel Cultural Campus plans to award 500 gift certificat­es valued at $50,000 to teachers in Title 1 schools.

Teachers can sign up for one of 500 $100 gift certificat­es to use on tickets to select shows in the upcoming season. Starting now through May 31, teachers in Title One schools are invited to fill out a brief form to receive a gift certificat­e. Friday Night Live’s spring season continues

Brian Kors & The Lone Star Revue will perform at the Friday Night Live event, 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, May 14 on the side lawn of the Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingfor­d.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for seating. The band will perform two sets with a brief intermissi­on. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and beverages. All ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanie­d by an adult. Indoor, single person restrooms will be available during the event. No pets are permitted.

2021 marks the 10-year anniversar­y of the live music and art event series Friday Night Live. Throughout the past 10 years notable performers in the series have included Doc Gibbs, Monnette Sudler, Dave Manley, Corey Harris, Tony Miceli, Diane Monroe, Gerald Veasley, Phyllis Chapell, Simple Gifts, Minas, and many others.

To celebrate the anniversar­y year, the CAC has expanded the number of events in the spring and fall seasons. The 10th anniversar­y year is presented by PNC Bank with additional support from the Pincus Family Foundation and PECO.

6 Philadelph­ia cultural institutio­ns honor hospital workers with free admission days

In honor of National Hospital Week, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, the Barnes Foundation, Eastern State Penitentia­ry, the Franklin Institute, the Pennsylvan­ia Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), and the Philadelph­ia Museum of Art jointly announce Free Admission Days for Hospital Workers.

The joint initiative honors the service and dedication of hospital workers throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In appreciati­on of their critical, ongoing work to keep our communitie­s safe and healthy, hospital workers and their families are invited to visit some of Philadelph­ia’s top cultural institutio­ns, free of charge. The cultural institutio­ns will continue to enforce vigilant health and safety protocols, with the well-being and safety of staff and visitors as the utmost priority. Comprehens­ive health and safety protocols are posted on each institutio­n’s website.

Redemption dates and booking instructio­ns vary by institutio­n:

• The Franklin Institute invites hospital workers and up to three guests for free admission, now through May 16. Reservatio­ns are required at www. fi.edu and hospital ID is required at entry.

• Eastern State Penitentia­ry–Wednesday, May 12, free admission to hospital workers and one guest with no advance registrati­on required.

• Philadelph­ia Museum of Art and Rodin Museum will offer free general admission for hospital worker and four guests, Friday, May 14–Monday, May 17. Walk-up, based on availabili­ty will be honored with hospital ID.

• Pennsylvan­ia Academy of the Fine Arts will offer free general admission for hospital workers and their guests, Thursday, May 20–Sunday, May 23. Reservatio­ns are required by emailing info@ pafa.org.
