Garnet Valley’s Eric Albright and Radnor’s Chris Belz put on quite a show in the 800-meter run last Saturday at the Unionville Invitational.

Albright edged Belz by .40 seconds to take the gold medal. Albright, who is headed to Maryland, and Belz will go at it at the Delco Boys Track & Field Championships Thursday and Saturday at Upper Darby High School.

There are five finals starting at 3:30 Thursday. Champions will be determined in the 3,200-meter run, high jump, shot put, javelin and triple jump. The rest of the finals will be contested starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Albright and Belz rank seventh and ninth in the state in the 800, respectively, according to pa.milesplit.com. Albright also is ranked seventh in the state in the 1,600 and ninth in the 400 but the 800 is the only individual event in which he’s entered at Delcos.

They’re two of the state’s best who will be on display.

The highest-ranked athlete at the meet will be Chris Sims of The Haverford School. The senior is tied for second in the state in the triple jump (45-6½). His teammate, Curtis Weh, is ranked eighth (44-8½). Weh also is ranked No. 1 in Delco in the long jump (21-8).

Episcopal Academy’s Peter Lim and Chichester’s Zaquan Bruton are the only returning champions from 2019, the last time the county championship was held. The meet was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lim won the pole vault in 2019 but he’s not the favorite going into this event. That honor belongs to Penncrest junior Daniel Munro, who is ranked seventh in the state with a vault of 14-6. The meet record is 14-9, which was set by Strath Haven All-Delco Chris Williams in 2011.

Bruton will be hardpressed to repeat, too. Interboro senior Isiah Fusaro is tied for eighth in the state. He jumped 6-4 at the Del Val League meet on April 29.

The 4 x 400-meter relay should be a battle between Chester and Radnor. The Clippers are ranked fourth in the state and Radnor is eighth.

Strath Haven’s Enrico Faccio is among the other athletes to watch. He’s ranked No. 1 in the county and No. 11 statewide in the 110 high hurdles. He’s also No. 1 in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Episcopal Academy’s Neo Vossschulte has the top time in the county in the 100. Upper Darby’s George Okyne is No. 1 in the 200.

Haverford’s Patrick Lawson is the top seed in the 3,200. Marple Newtown’s Justin Quinn is entered in all three throwing events. He’s No. 1 in the county in

the discus. Garnet Valley’s Kevin Genthert has the best javelin throw in the county (153-4) and Hayden Brown of Ridley is No. 1 in the shot put (48-2½).
