Cheap Trick’s Nielsen brings family band to Art on the Avenue
Here are some events planned for this weekend throughout the region: • West Reading’s 27th annual Art on the Avenue street festival will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. along Penn Avenue.
The event, which is free to attend, spans four pedestrian-friendly blocks with close to 150 vendors, local and regional artists, crafters, food, drinks and music on two stages. Scheduled to perform starting at noon on the Sixth Avenue stage are Egon and the Slimers, Mr. Nice Guy, Non Zero Sum Guitar Trio, Cloud Party,
The Chairman Dances and thequietcampaign before concluding at 6 p.m. with The Nielsen Trust, featuring Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick and his family. Music on the Seventh Avenue Stage kicks off with Alison Favila at 12:30, followed by Horns of Pan, Aaron Parker, Beautiful Red Panda, Kick Out Before 3and Milou Sky. The Tailgate Under the Tent music series presented by 118 North,
Wayne, features performances by Jawn of the
Dead (Grateful Dead tribute) today at 6 p.m., AM Radio Trio plus DB Lambert and Link Hanson on Friday at 6 p.m., and Brown Sugar (Rolling Stones tribute) and Whiskey Logic on Saturday at 6 p.m. The free pop-up concerts take place at the Wayne Picnic Grove.

History and art will come together at the 34th Annual Stahl’s Summer Pottery Festival,
being held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stahl’s Pottery, 6826Corning Road, Zionsville, Lehigh County. The event features tours of the site, contemporary pottery and food. Visitors will learn about the art of Pennsylvania German redware pottery as carried out by Thomas, Isaac and Russell
Stahl. In addition, 26potters will be exhibiting and selling their creations. Admission is $4 for adults and free for
those under 18. Rain date is June 26. See stahlspottery.org or Stahl’s Facebook for more information. •“The American Spirit: Public Art From the Great Depression,” an exhibit of artwork that was produced under the Public Works of Art Project, opens Saturday and runs through Sept.
6 at the Reading Public Museum. The Public Works of Art Project was a New Deal relief program that brought employment to artists during the Great Depression. The goal of the PWAP was not only to give artists an opportunity to earn money, but also to furnish and beautify public spaces with artwork and to raise public morale during the greatest economic depression in American history. Over the duration of the project, PWAP artists created 15,663 artworks, including wall murals, oil paintings, watercolors, prints and drawings, sculptures and textiles. This art was then disbursed to public schools, orphanages, libraries, museums and other public buildings.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for ages 65-plus and 4-17, and college students with ID. For more information, see readingpublicmuseum. org.

The 2021 Concerts in the Park series at the West Reading Park
debuts on Sunday with a co-headlining bill of The Tribe and the Tuck Ryan Band. These events will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month through September, and will feature live entertainment, the Hydra Arts Bazaar, interactive art, food trucks and an outdoor beer garden presented by the Reading Occasional Cocktail Club. Admission is free.

The Reading Pops Orchestra will present the Annual Father’s Day Concert in the Chateau Tent
at Green Valley Swim Club, 150 Green Valley Road, Lower Heidelberg Township, on Sunday at 3 pm. The free concert, sponsored in part by the Music Performance Trust Fund as administered through the AFM Local 135-211 and the Reading Musical Foundation, will honor people significant to the Pops, and all fathers. Food trucks will be on hand.
