MEDIA » Pennsylvania Veterans Museum will reopen its doors at noon Friday, Aug. 6, after a long closure due to the coronavirus. The museum is located at 12 E. State St., Media, in the lower level of the historic Media Armory, beneath Trader Joe’s.

The museum first opened its doors on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2005, and was open continuously until the COVID pandemic. Originally designed to be a museum on World War II history, it has changed its exhibits over the years and added a Korean War Exhibit, and the new and powerful Vietnam War Exhibit.

The museum’s ongoing mission is to preserve, promote, and protect the legacy of all veterans, and to educate the public, especially the youth, about the sacrifices that Pennsylvania veterans made in times of war and conflict to keep America safe and free.

The museum features personal memorabilia, military artifacts, and kiosks that present powerful video interviews with local men and women who describe their experiences serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Tours are provided by knowledgeable veteran volunteers, who also share their military experiences with visitors.

The museum has produced several acclaimed documentary films for school students on World War II, Vietnam, and Women in the Military. These films are available on the museum’s website, www.paveteransmuseum. org, along with lesson plans which are available free to all educators. Also on the website are powerful interviews from local Vietnam veterans and descriptions of various aspects of the Vietnam War.

The museum is looking forward to re-opening and welcoming back school classes, scout troops, veterans groups and everyone who is interested in learning about the history of the United States military. Starting with its re-opening on Aug. 6, the museum will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 610- 566-0788.
