Taylor seems in midseason form for Haverford in win

New season, same old accolades for Emma Taylor.

The Haverford senior and reigning Daily Times softball player of the year collected her 300th career strikeout Friday, one of 11 punchouts in a 5-1 nonleague win over West Chester East.

Taylor allowed one hit and three walks. She added a tworun triple.

Kerri McCallum went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Annabella Knese also clubbed a run-scoring triple.

GARNET VALLEY 1, INTERBORO 0 »

Anna Sidlowski started the season by twirling a no-hitter as the Jaguars squeaked past the Bucs. Sidlowski fanned 11 of the first 12 batters she faced, on the way to 17 punchouts in seven innings.

Sara Smith matched her nearly zero for zero, striking out eight. The only blip came in the second inning, when freshman Zoey Rogers homered in her first high school at-bat. Rogers had two hits on the day.

SUN VALLEY 15, STRATH HAVEN 1 »

Freshman Jordyn Skarren fanned eight batters en route to logging a no-hitter in her first varsity start.

Brianna Lawson provided support for Skarren with three hits. Sarah Powers added a three-run homer. Ally Sheppard and Lacie Gilpin chipped in with two hits apiece.

PENNCREST 6, CHICHESTER 0 » Bridget Gavin allowed two hits and struck out four over five innings, and Elaina Guerrieri finished up the shutout for the Lions.

Riley Signor led Penncrest with the bat, a triple shy of the cycle with four RBIs and two runs scored. Mattea Baumgardne­r went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while Maggie Allison added two hits and an RBI. Marissa Taylor had two hits for Chichester.

Baseball

It took Sun Valley only three innings to run up a 15-0 shutout of Interboro.

Josh Lillis allowed the Bucs two hits while striking out four and walking none. Offensivel­y, Vinny Proietto had three RBIs and two runs scored, while Ryan Snyder (three RBIs) and Will Newnom had two hits each.

HAVERFORD SCHOOL 16, STRATH HAVEN 4 » An eight spot in the bottom of the fifth blew the game open, just after Strath Haven had tied the game on a grand slam by Sam Milligan.

Colby McNeely homered twice in the bottom of the fifth, and Jake LaRocca brought an early end to the proceeding­s with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth. McNeely found time for four solid innings on the mound with one hit allowed.

LaRocca drove in six runs. McNeely had three RBIs and three runs scored. Jimmy Davey went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Mark Quatrani also homered for Haverford School (4-1).

Milligan and Alex Pak had two hits each for the Panthers in their opener.

Girls Lacrosse

Lainey Chestnut scored four goals and contribute­d two assists as Sun Valley got the early jump and pulled away from Upper Darby, 20-7.

Alena Catka and Riley Basht also had four goals each, while Abby Buck scored three times.

Angela Ellis turned the Royals away five times in net. But Gwen Luther had three goals and Curran Penot added two goals and an assist for Upper Darby.

RIDLEY 9, OXFORD 8 » Emily Liberio led the Green Raiders to an opening win with five goals.

Krista Geibler contribute­d two goals and an assist.

Boys Tennis

Garnet Valley dropped just two games in a 7-0 sweep of Springfiel­d. Vishal Brahma, Shiven Patel and Rithik Brahma each won their singles matches in straight sets.

HAVERFORD 7, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 0 » Thom Huangpu ground out a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lure Liney at second singles to lead the Fords to a sweep.

Justin Salvesen prevailed at first singles, and Nick Kemp took care of third singles, a clean sweep of the seniors singles players for the Fords.
