Chester police arrest 2, including juvenile, on gun charges

Chester Police Commission­er Steven Gretsky has announced two arrests on gun charges in the past week.

Police arrested Saleeh Raheem, a convicted felon, March 31 after he was found to be in possession of a firearm.

Police were called to the 400 block of East 11th Street for the report of a subject with a gun.

County radio informed responding Officer Joshua DiSylvestr­o the person with the gun was wearing a gray sweatshirt and sitting in a red Pontiac Grand Prix.

Officer DiSylvestr­o arrived and spoke with a male identified as Raheem. While speaking with him, officers observed a black pistol protruding from his waistband. Raheem was removed from the vehicle and detained. The pistol was later identified as a Smith & Wesson MP 40 caliber.

Raheem’s informatio­n was checked through N.C.I.C which confirmed he did not possess a valid permit to carry a firearm and his criminal history revealed that he has a prior felony conviction prohibitin­g him from possessing a firearm.

Raheem was charged with firearms violations and related offenses and arraigned by District Judge Michael Burns, with bail set at 10% of $250,000.00.

Raheem was committed to George W. Hill Correction­al Facility with his preliminar­y hearing scheduled for April 12. Judvenile with a gun.

Chester police were dispatched April 2 to the first block of West Eighth Street for a domestic with the report of a firearm involved.

As police were responding, county radio reported that a suspect had fled the scene in a white Hyundai Tucson.

Responding police observed a 2019 white Hyundai Tucson in the area of 9th and Edwards Street which they stopped.

During the investigat­ion Officer Zachary Litvinenko made contact with a 14-year-old rear seat passenger of the vehicle who was detained.

A black Beretta APX 9mm pistol, with an obliterate­d serial number was recovered. The juvenile male was placed into custody and charged with firearms violations and related offenses, Gretsky said.
