Toomey pitches Rays past Expos

Kyle Toomey pitched a complete game with six strikeouts as the Glen Mills Rays squeezed past the Top Lumber Expos, 3-2, in a Delco MSBL contest Wednesday evening.

Anthony Monzo rapped three hits and Pat Milia produced two base knocks to lead the Rays’ offense.

MEDIA MUSTANGS 7, SPRINGFIEL­D CARDINALS 6 » The Mustangs held off a late charge by the Cards as hurler Troung Nguyen scattered five runs (two earned) and struck out six to pick up the win. Gary Prugh came away with the save.

Joe Marra drove in three runs and Greg Bashaw, Andrew Pisani, Mark Zoba, and Jim Diorisio all knocked in a run for Media.

In a Main Line Senior Legion game:

BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 6, UPPER DARBY 2 » Tyler Hammond and Josh Dell’Arciprete each swung a hot bat, supplying three hits apiece for B-N.

Michael Bower’s runscoring single helped break things open. Josh Freiling had a pair of hits and Eddie Grose doubled for the winning team.

BROOKHAVEN 1, HAVERFORD 0 » Dan Nearey twirled a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts in a game played Tuesday night. Shaun Maggitti singled home Cody Herestofa with the game’s only run.

Diving

Reilly Schaffer claimed top honors in the senior boys division as Landowne

defeated Riddlewood, 25-18, in a Delco League meet Tuesday evening.

Lansdowne’s Dimitri Leonterres and Lue Nasealah took first place in the novice and junior girls division, respective­ly.

Joelle Haigh (senior girls) and Griffin Bohnman (junior boys) triumphed for Riddlewood. RIDLEY TWP. 39, TINICUM 9 » Whitney Alig (novice), Aubry Kauffman (junior girls), Cody Hollenbach (junior boys) and Ava Keller (senior girls) were first-place finishers for Ridley. Caleb Arnolt of Tinicum dominated the senior boys division. PRIMOS-SECANE 17, KNOWLTON 14 » Scarlett Kobasic was first in the novice division and Robby Chandler (junior boys) and Emily Mack (senior girls) also went home victorious for Primos-Secane.

Julia Weld won the junior girls competitio­n for Knowlton.

Softball

Frank Taparata’s walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Boss Automotive a 13-12 comeback win over AmPro Screen Printing in a Brandywine Valley Senior game.

AmPro held a 12-7 lead in the fifth inning, but winning pitcher Ken Weiler threw well in the late innings, overcoming a shaky start.

In another Gold Division contest:

GOSHEN BEVERAGE 22, CARLSON’S AUTO BODY 12 » Mike Shone, Ed Turner, Jerry Montella and Bruce Gilbert led the way for Goshen (14-3) at the plate.
