Springfield’s Cantwell, Smith blank Aston Valley

Sean Phelan, Norm Donkin and Gabe Encarnacion were productive in the middle of the lineup, and Andrew Cantwell and Mike Smith were solid on the hill as Springfield blanked Aston Valley, 10-0, in the Delco League Saturday.

Phelan went 1-for-2 and knocked in a pair of runs. Donkin went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Encarnacion had one hit and drove in two runs. Farrell also collected two hits and two RBIs for the Colonials.

Cantwell surrendered three hits and whiffed nine in five innings to earn the win. Smith fanned two and gave up one hit in two innings pitched.

Elsewhere in the Delco League:

UPPER DARBY 13-4, CHESTER 0-12 » In the opener, Luke Buscaglia and Jon Aman combined on a three-hitter to lift the Blue Sox to the shutout win. Buscaglia allowed one hit and struck out five over four innings to get the win. Aman fanned five and gave up two hits in three innings.

Andrew Yates, Matt Querey, Thylar Summerell and Sammy Burman supplied the offense. Yates was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Querey also drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 with one run scored. Summerell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Burman was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

In the nightcap, Nick Toms went deep while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored out the leadoff spot and Pat Warrinton finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs as Chester posted a win. Eri Ludman was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Rob Lucas belted two triples in a 3-for-4 day that included two RBIs and two runs scored.

Dre Solomon threw four innings out of the bullpen to get the win.
