James A. Happas “Uncle Jimmy” 88 of Morton, died July 4, 2022.

James emigrated to the United States in 1961 initially going to work for his uncle at the former Circle Diner in New Jersey. After marrying Freida Politarhos he went to work for his father in law and brother in law at Pete’s Embassy Room in Folsom, PA. He eventually branched out on his own and opened the Crab Tavern in 1979 which quickly grew into a larger space in 1988 expanding as a nightclub/ bar. Above all else he loved interactin­g with people, hearing their stories and always treated everyone with respect and kindness.

After retiring in 2004, he quickly realized that he missed dealing with people and started a second career working at his nephew’s (Pete Politarhos) business (Zacs Hamburgers) in Folsom, PA. At Zacs he brought his trademark wit and engaging personalit­y to everyone he interacted with and affectiona­tely became known as “Uncle Jimmy” to everyone he met. He loved spending time with his grandchild­ren and treasured the time he spent with them.

James was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and AHEPA.

He was husband of the late Freida Politarhos Happas, who died in 1993 and son of the late Aristides and Chrysoula Lyvannos Happas.

James is survived by his children, Art Happas (Peggy), Soula Phyrillas (Tony) and Pete Happas; his grandchild­ren James and Patrick Phyrillas, James, Ava and Josh Happas; sister-in-law Peggy Contoris and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service 11:00AM Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 E. Forge Rd., Media,PA 19063 where relatives and friends may call after 9:30AM. Burial Chester Rural Cemetery.
