Springfield Area Ed Foundation looks for artists, sponsors for first juried art show

The Springfield Area Educational Foundation (SAEF) and Springfield School District (SSD) have announced plans to hold the first Juried Alumni Art Exhibition. The art exhibition will be held November 11- 12 in the new Springfield High School lobby area.

The foundation’s artful weekend, which will be open to the public, seeks to represent the legacy of Springfield’s art and design programs by showcasing many works for sale by the school’s alumni. SAEF’s goal is to celebrate Springfield’s visual arts history through the works of the

artistic alumni while fundraising for the school’s student scholarship programs. “We are pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition will be dedicated to our beloved Springfield art teacher, Beth Fellona,” said Chris Belton, SHS art educator and event committee co-chair. “Art is a powerful educational tool. In addition to creativity and selfexpression, the arts teach problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and collaboration.”

By showcasing works by their alumni, SAEF and SSD seek to highlight the importance of arts education and honor the accomplishments of its graduates. Organizers of the show hope to attract a wide variety of alumni artists and designers from all mediums, both professional and amateur. All entries will be evaluated for exhibition by a jury panel including current art educators, art students, community members and SAEF/ SHS board members. Deadline for art entries is September 16. Guidelines/Entry Forms for submission are at https://www. saef.net/. For additional information to exhibit, contact Chris Belton, SHS Art Educator at christone.belton@ssdcougars.org.
