Aston Middletown beats Whitemarsh to force showdown

The Aston Middletown Little League majors team is one win away from completing another improbable comeback in tournament play.

Riley Comsiak pitched a sixhit complete game as AMLL defeated Whitemarsh, 5-1, Friday evening.

The teams play again Saturday morning in a winner-takeall for the Section 8 championsh­ip. First pitch is 10 a.m.

Brody Orr, Nick Hoffman and Kyle Anstotz powered the offense with two hits apiece. Sameer Dhillon singled and scored a pair of runs, while Dean Massey tripled and scored a run.

AM lost to Whitemarsh in Game 1 of the Section 8 tournament, then won three in a row to reach the championsh­ip round. In the District 19 tournament earlier this month Aston-Middletown lost its opener before rattling off seven consecutiv­e victories to capture the title.

In the Delco League:

WAYNE 11, SPRINGFIEL­D 3 » Firstplace Wayne tallied at least a run in every inning. Luke Mutz laced two doubles and scored twice and Nate Sides was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tommy Bradley (three RBIs), Dan Williams and Jake Siani all chipped in with two base knocks.

Cam Mathes gave up a run on five hits and struck out nine over five innings to earn the win.

Sean Phelan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Gabe Encarnacio­n doubled in a run for Springfiel­d. Will Kelley (two runs) and Johnny Flieder (double) each went 2-for-3.

Diving

Ridley Park’s Riley Faust and Brayden Saunders were victorious at the Delco League Diving Championsh­ips in the novice division.

Faust won the girls with a score of 96.75. Ridley Township’s Emma Kauffman (86.45) and Karakung’s Kayla Leach (85.25) placed second and third.

Saunders was first in the boys with 85.20 points. Ridley Park’s Jason Grawl (75.80) and Ridley Township’s Mason Myers (72.55) finished second and third.
