100Years Ago, 1922: Decisive action was taken last evening at a dinnermeet­ing held at the Chester Club, 511Welsh St., by representa­tives of progressiv­e organizati­ons of this city and the borough of Swarthmore, in conjunctio­n with the Keystone Automobile Club, relative to arranging for a proper ceremonial in connection with the formal opening to pubic use and travel of the quarter-million dollar concrete viaduct across Crum Creek, at the Avondale quarries, connecting Nether Providence Township with Swarthmore. Saturday afternoon, Dec. 30, was the time designated for the event.

75 Years Ago, 1947: The Christmas Carol Caravan visited Chester and Crozer Hospitals on Friday evening to play Yule music for patients in the institutio­ns. Later in the night the caravan, which is sponsored as a good will measure by the Marcus Hook Herald and the Chester Times, was in the Chester area. Today the recorded carols are being played around Eddystone and Parkside, and tonight will be in the downtown shopping district. Sunday afternoon Carl Mau, publisher of the Herald, will take the equipment to Broadmeado­ws Prison for a special program.

50 Years Ago, 1972: Strawbridg­e & Clothier has submitted preliminar­y plans to Morton Borough Council for the developmen­t of a 73,000-squarefoot low-margin Clover Store on a seven-acre site on Baltimore Pike and Leamey Ave. “We haven’t announced anything official in Morton but it wouldn’t affect any of our plans with the (proposed) Middletown store,” said James M. Gassaway, S&C’s vice president for planning and developmen­t.

25 Years Ago, 1997: Two men were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend by Aston police. Police said a 34-year-old Glen Mills man was arrested after an officer noticed his car straddling the center double line in the 800block of Aston Mills Road at 2:34a.m. Saturday. The man failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a blood test. At 9:02p.m. Friday, police observed a car driven by a 37-year-old Upper Darby man straddling the center double line in the 200block of Concord Road. Police said he was too drunk to safely complete field sobriety tests.

10 Years Ago, 2012: The streak is over. Chester High’s amazing run of 61 consecutiv­e victories ended Thursday night at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The Clippers dropped a 73-50decision to undefeated Lone Peak High (Utah). Reigning Daily Times Player of the Year Rondae Jefferson posted a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10rebounds for Chester (3-1).
