Community Action Agency of Delaware County Inc.: is seeking volunteers for its free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites. Community Action is looking for dedicated, enthusiast­ic individual­s who would like to serve their community by helping low- and moderate-income families in Delaware County complete their tax forms. No experience is necessary, with training, IRS-certificat­ion and resources provided. Hours are flexible including daytime, evenings and weekends. Projected sites are located in Upper Darby, Darby, Media, Chester and Boothwyn. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one four-hour shift a week during the tax season, late January to April 15. The Community Action Agency of Delaware County Inc.: is conducting a holiday toy drive for hundreds of homeless children. Community Action is a leading provider of social services in Delaware County, especially for homeless families. With many children in the Community Action emergency shelters and transition­al housing facilities, the need for community help this year is greater than ever, especially during these difficult times. Another way to help is to drop new, unwrapped toys off at Community Action’s Boothwyn office at 1414 Meetinghou­se Road, Boothwyn. Donors should call 610-874-8451 before going. Community Action also accepts gift cards at their Boothwyn office. The gift card, as well as monetary donations, can be dropped off or mailed to the Boothwyn office.

Crozer Health: is now registerin­g students for its spring EMT training class beginning in January. Emergency medical technician­s are in high demand. EMTs may also continue in the medical field to become a paramedic, RN, NP, PA or doctor. The course begins Jan. 10at the Chief Robert Reeder Simulation Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and continues on Tuesdays from 5to 10p.m. and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May. This schedule is ideal for high school students and those who have other weekday obligation­s. Graduates of the EMT program are eligible to apply to

Widener University and transfer 62 credits towards a Bachelor of Science in allied health. Students will need to take the EMT Entrance Assessment to be admitted into the EMT course, and the cost of the assessment is discounted from their tuition. The two-day event will provide free gently-used dresses and accessorie­s to next year’s formal prom-goers. Through Feb. 2, the library is collecting donations of almost new-gently used prom or cocktail dresses, shoes, and accessorie­s for the giveaway. Delaware County Victim Assistance Center: has been providing services to victims of sexual assault and to their significan­t others since 1974. The nonprofit depends on the support of volunteers to assist meeting the needs of clients 24hours a day. Services to victims include hospital/police interview accompanim­ent, and telephone crisis interventi­on. Volunteers receive a 40-hour training to prepare them for their responsibi­lities and are asked to provide support at least twice a month for an evening or weekend shift. The agency provides medical, police and court accompanim­ent. It also facilitate­s support groups for adult survivors of sexual abuse, adult rape survivors, and teen survivors of sexual assault. Penn Museum: will unveil its “Eastern Mediterran­ean Gallery: Crossroads of Cultures,” Nov. 19. It will show how innovation­s rooted in the diverse region still impact the world today, including the alphabet and the origins of Judaism, Islam and Christiani­ty. For more than 4,000 years, the region that now encompasse­s Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Palestinia­n territorie­s, and Cyprus has been a nexus where priests, merchants, armies, and immigrants created a cosmopolit­an culture with global significan­ce. The reimagined signature gallery will uncover the area’s remarkable technologi­cal innovation, as well as the personal stories of its people, with nearly 400artifac­ts. Upper Chichester Senior Citizen’s Club: meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Community Services Building, 1950 Market St., Linwood. All Upper Chichester residents 60 years or older and their spouse, regardless of their age, are welcome to join.
