Police arrest alleged porch pirates, return packages

Philly man and Clifton Heights woman charged and jailed

Springfiel­d Township police arrested a man and woman in the theft of delivered packages to three township residents last week.

Officers were called to the first block of North Alford Road on Friday Dec. 16 at 4:26 p.m. for a report that a male subject was taking a package from a front porch, and entering a vehicle.

Police responded and spotted the vehicle on Avon Road near Bennett Road, and pulled it over.

He identified the female driver and male passenger and observed numerous packages inside the vehicle.

The packages were found to have been stolen from three Springfiel­d residences.

Police arrested Janice Anderson, 19, Clifton Heights, and Isaiah Blankson, 21, Philadelph­ia. Both were arraigned and later transporte­d to the George W. Hill Correction­al Facility.

Anderson was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, prowling, driving without a license, conspiracy and driving on a suspended license. Blankson was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, prowling and conspiracy. He was also arrested Dec. 6 in Clifton Heights for trespassin­g, accord to court records.

Bail for each was set at $10,000, which they were unable to post, so they were sent to the prison. Their preliminar­y hearing is set for Dec. 29.

Police said they were able to return the stolen items to the victims in time for the holidays.

Catalytic converter theft

Dec. 13, 9:50 a.m.: A shopper at Springfiel­d Mall reported that sometime on Sunday Dec 11 someone removed the catalytic converter from his Mitsubishi vehicle while it was parked at the mall.

Package theft

Dec. 13, 2 p.m.: A resident of the first block of Schuyler Road reported a package was stolen from the front of the property.

Shopliftin­g

Dec. 15, 3:27 p.m.: A 37-year-old female from Philadelph­ia was taken into custody after Macy’s security at the mall reported she stole $200 in jewelry. They also reported the same female stole boots from the store in November. The woman was found to have an active arrest warrant from Abington police for theft and was turned over to them. Charges for retail theft will be filed.

Boot thief

Dec. 16, 3:15 p.m.: Macy’s reported a female stopped for stealing over $1,100 worth of boots. Officers responded and took custody of a 31-year-old woman from Claymont, Delaware. She was found to have an active arrest warrant out of Delaware County and was later transporte­d to Delaware County Prison. Retail theft charges will be filed.

Vandalism

Dec. 16, 4:24 p.m.: An employee of Springfiel­d Hyundai reported someone poured milk on her vehicle, which had been parked on the 500 block Philmar Court.

Dec. 17, 8:16 p.m.: Several residents from the area of Ridgewood Road, Avon Road and Alliston Road reported damage occurred to their fences in the rear of their property in which fence panels or slats were broken.

Shopliftin­g

Dec. 17, 10:16 p.m.: Officers responded to the CVS in the 700 block of Baltimore Pike for a report of a woman who just stole over $400 worth of merchandis­e. They located the female on Baltimore Pike and recovered the merchandis­e. The 33-year-old from Drexel Hill was taken into custody and processed. She was later released, and charges for retail theft will be filed.

Vandalism

Dec. 18, 1:44 p.m.: A Newtown Square resident reported that sometime during the early evening on Dec. 17 someone spray painted the hood of his vehicle as it was parked on the first block of Surrey Road.

DUI

Dec. 18, 11:37 p.m.: Officers responded to the first block of Baltimore Pike to investigat­e a stopped vehicle with the driver unconsciou­s. The vehicle was found with a flat tire, and the driver was found to be intoxicate­d. The 43-year-old male from Havertown was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was later released, and charges for DUI are pending.
