Eckler sets school record, Ridley swims past Garnet

Shane Eckler set the Ridley program record in the boys 100 butterfly with a time of 52.16 seconds, part of a 95-84 win over Garnet Valley in Central League swimming Thursday.

Eckler downed the mark set in 2020 by All-Delco Alex Boeckx. Eckler also won the 100 backstroke, in 53.17. He was part of a 200 medley relay — with Cody Hollenbach, Eric Boeckx and Matt Murdock — that earned a District 1 considerat­ion cut.

Murdock won the 200 individual medley, Hollenbach rolled in the 500 freestyle and Eric Boeckx posted a district considerat­ion time of 1:03.45 in the 100 breaststro­ke. Tyler Reeve won diving with a score of 190.20.

Garnet Valley freshman Riley Viner won the 50 free.

MARPLE NEWTOWN 92, PENNCREST 89 » Mikey DeMattei’s victory in the 100 back on the heels of a 200 free relay win helped the Tigers squeak out a win.

Patrick Droesser won the 200 free for the Tigers, and Tate Yeakle claimed the 100 fly. Ethan D’Angelo was the top scorer in diving at 231.10 points.

Penncrest got a pair of wins, in the 200 IM and 500 free, from Beppe Tangorra. Jonathan Hoole swept the sprints, winning the 50 in 21.65 and the 100 in 48.26. Dante Cholmeley-Jones won the 100 breast.

HAVERFORD 99, STRATH HAVEN 81 » Kyle Given and Kenny Keagy went 1-2 in the 50 free as the Fords’ depth won the day. Given touched in 26.07 to get the win. Sam Graaf won the 100 fly, and TJ Hayes won the 100 back for the Fords.

Gavin Shifflett did the distance double, winning the 200 IM and 400 free for Haven, the former in a District 1 considerat­ion time to edge Hayes by a second. Brian Chieffo won the 200 free and 100 free.

Girls Swimming

Sarah Krissinger won the 50 free and 100 back as Haverford eased to a 101-82 win over Strath Haven.

Krissinger stopped the clock in 28.07 to edge teammate Erin Kelly in the 50-meter free. She went 1:11:14 to win the 100 backstroke.

Katya Eruslanova added two wins, claiming the 200 IM and 100 breast for the Fords. Ellie Krissinger won the 200 free for Haverford, and Eruslanova, Kelly, Sarah Krissinger and Winnie Hayes won the 200 medley relay.

Strath Haven strung together three wins in the middle of the meet, but it wasn’t enough. Abby Schofield won the 100 fly, freshman Mira Gold claimed the 100 free and Ella Shifflett took in the 400 free.

PENNCREST 105, MARPLE NEWTOWN 63 »

Ruby Schwelm swam to victory in the 200 IM and 500 free as the Lions claimed an easy victory.

Grace Couglin and Ava McLaughlin won races on either side of the diving break, which was claimed by Olivia Truocchio’s score of 184.70.

Riley Coffman and Marple’s Sophie Yacoubian tied for the 100 back win.

Marple also won the 200 free (Katie Snyder) and 100 free (Ava Droesser).

GARNET VALLEY 99, RIDLEY 82 »

Zoey Rogers won the 100 fly and 200 IM as the Jaguars picked up a road win.

Peyton Goetz did the sprint double, the latter a 1-2 in district considerat­ion times with Dierdre Scudder, and Mallorie Jeremiah won the 200 and 500 free. Scudder returned to claim the 100 back in a district considerat­ion cut.

Ridley went 1-2-3 in diving, Jolie Torres leading a trio of 200-point scorers with 237.60.

Hockey

Owen Rabadam scored off a feed from Ryan McGlade 10 seconds into overtime as Haverford toppled Downingtow­n East, 3-2, in a crossover game Thursday night.

McGlade tied the game at two on the power play at 14:21 of the third. Aidan Brawley and Rabadam had the assists. Patrick Cunningham had put the Fords ahead before Jack Wolf scored twice in the second period.

Dylan Vieira made 35 saves in the win.

W.C. EAST 12, RADNOR 2 » Andrew Knight scored twice in the first period, but the Raptors couldn’t slow down the Vikings. Tommy Kennedy and Tucker Graham assisted on the second goal.

Wrestling

Consecutiv­e pins by Rocco Hartfuss at 152 pounds and David Rainey at 160 sent Ridley toward a 48-26 nonleague win over Interboro.

Tom Wickham and Steve Murphy won by pins at 133 and 139, respective­ly. Heavyweigh­t Sevon Morris needed just 50 seconds to notch his pin, while Jason Howard won by fall in 1:59 at 215 pounds.

Anthony Lascio (127), Greg Ferrari (189) and Garrett Shropshire (107) won by fall for the Bucs. Gavin Oliva scored a tech fall at 145.

SPRINGFIEL­D 36, MARPLE NEWTOWN 32 »

Tristan Cuellar’s 3-2 decision over Brett Cowan at 215 prove pivotal in a narrow win for the Cougars late Wednesday, as was Zane Cuellar’s win by fall just a second before time at 121.

That ability to get pins made the difference. Tyler Rush (107), Caymin Grier (133), Tommy Rush (152) and Teddy Kelly (160) also won by fall for the Cougars.

Marple put itself in position to win when Jimmy Hally scored a 9-3 win at 172 and Louie Diluzio followed with a pin at 189. But even Josh Tiger-Wesley’s quick pin at 285 wouldn’t be enough points.
