Aston Lions Club holds bingo Sunday to fund charitable work in community
ASTON » The Aston Lions Club will host bingo Sunday, Jan. 8 in the Aston Community Center, 3270 Concord Rd., Aston Township. Cost is $20. Proceeds will benefit the many community projects of the Aston Lions. Recently, the Lions held their Children’s Christmas Party, as well as provided 15 complete family Christmas dinners to families in need.
The Aston Township Lions Club has been hosting a Children’s Christmas party for over 60 years. Special letters of invitation were mailed to families in the Penn Delco School District and 64 families responded. The children were taken to Walmart to purchase gifts, followed by a party at Pennell Elementary School, with pitzza, soda, ice cream, and cookies made by members of the Aston Lions Club and their wives and friends, as well as members of the Aston Lioness Club.

Swarthmore Friends of the Arts presents new January exhibit
Swarthmore Friends of the Arts will present “Love’s Abundance,” by artist Monique Sarkessian, as its January art exhibit. An exhibition of original oil and encaustic wax paintings by Sarkessian will be on display, Jan. 4- 31 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Ave., Swarthmore. The public is invited to the artist’s opening reception, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Monique Sarkessian is a Philadelphia artist who creates vibrant oil and encaustic wax paintings and salvaged and ceramic sculptures that bring healing joy found in the revelation of the presence and love of God in and around us. The artist uses a variety of expressive art mediums to bring the viewer into the divine mysteries explored in her world. She seeks to touch collectors’ hearts with the joy and love of God through her artwork with vivid color and joyful depictions that keep the viewer’s attention to look and look again.
Sarkessian has been painting, exhibiting, and selling her work professionally for nearly 40 years. She has exhibited widely and had works honored with awards at numerous exhibitions and competitions across the US including two museums, several universities, and recently in Paris, France. She has also painted and exhibited in Italy.

St. James Bulldog Bash features Jamison Celtic Rock
The Saint James Alumni Association, in conjunction with St. James Regional Catholic School, will present their annual Bulldog Bash, featuring Jamison Celtic Rock, 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the St. James Doghouse, 1499 E. 9th St., Eddystone.
The fun night will include live music, food, beer and soda, 50/50 raffles, door prizes and much more. Cost is $35 and all proceeds benefit St. James Regional Catholic School. Norwood Senior Social Club offers trip to Moshulu and Live! Casino
Norwood Senior Social Club will offer a trip to Moshulu and Live! Casino on Tuesday, May 9. The cost is $80 for a three course plated lunch at the fivestar restaurant, a presentation of the history of the Moshulu, a tour of the ship, and a visit to Live! Casino. Bus will pick up and drop off at Springfield Country Club where there is plenty of parking.

DCIU helps parents choose college programs for students with intellectual disabilities
DCIU and Right to Education Local Task Force will present a panel discussion, “College Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities,” 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16. The session is part of the free training for parents, offered by the DCIU. There is no cost to attend the Zoom presentation, but registration is necessary. Parents will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of post-secondary college affiliated programs and services for students with intellectual disabilities. The session will help to guide parents through the often-challenging roadmap of educating their children with disabilities or learning challenges who may need extra help.

COSA and PA Link To Aging and Disability Resources will present “Healthy Habits for the New Year, featuring Registered Dietitician and Nutritionist Danielle Burke, in a Zoom session on healthy eating, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
