100 YEARS AGO, 1923 » Sheriff Thomas W. Allison conducted another raid at Leiper’s Flats in his effort to clean up the narcotic drug traffic in Delaware County. A man and woman were taken into custody and were held in $25,000 bail each for court by Magistrate M.P. Maitland, of Eddystone. The officers confiscate­d about $5,000 worth of narcotic drugs of all sorts, much of which was made up in capsules. When the officers reached the man’s shack they found the door bolted, and breaking the door, found the man and the woman sitting at a table taking a “shot” of drugs. About 10 needles were found in the room.

75 YEARS AGO, 1948 » Burglars smashed their way into the O’Brian Buick Company at Tenth Street and Morton Avenue Thursday night or early this morning and stole more than $500 in cash and checks amounting to more than $600. Breaking into the auto agency through a rear window the burglars did an estimated $1000 worth of damage as they looted the building.

50 YEARS AGO, 1973 » The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad freight cars derailed near Fairview road, Ridley Township, and electrical problems near the Penn Central’s Glenolden passenger station curtailed service Sunday at both spots. A B&O spokesman said service on its single main track was interrupte­d until 5 a.m. today following the derailment 4:10 p.m. Sunday of a New England 87-car freight train bound from Philadelph­ia to a Potomac yard outside Washington, D.C.

25 YEARS AGO, 1998 » In the heart of Havertown, just a few doors down from a bubble gum plant, Edna Davis is cultivatin­g artists, poets and dreams of her own. Eleven months ago, the 45-yearold photograph­er opened Tyme Gallery on Eagle Road in what was once a dress shop attached to an apartment complex. Her stated mission was “”showing and selling eclectic fine art to the public at an affordable cost.” Clearly, the public has been receptive. Her gallery was recently chosen by readers of Main Line Today magazine as best art gallery in the Main Line and western suburbs.

10 YEARS AGO, 2013 » Even though the meeting room was nearly filled to capacity Monday night, a limited number of Brookhaven residents addressed the rumored sale and developmen­t of the Chester Water Authority property at the intersecti­on of Edgmont Avenue and Coebourn Boulevard. “For those of you who are here about the water company property, we want you to know that there have been no negotiatio­ns,” said Council Vice President Ben Linowski.
