No labels, blocked employee sink, no certification for the boss
Comments on food-safety inspections conducted last week by the Delaware County Health Department of establishments with liquor licenses and only those that had violations, which this week was five of seven:
320 Market Cafe, 211 W. State St., Media:
• Prep table items 50 degrees and above.
• Inadequately held food was rapidly chilled to less than 41 degrees
• Eliminate mice droppings, using proper pest control processes as needed and clean frequently.
• Person in charge is not a certified food manager.
• Ham and cheese sandwiches not marked with a use-by date.
• A food thermometer is not available.
• Prepackaged cakes/cookies not properly labeled.
• Hand washing sink blocked by trash can.
Giant Food Store #6507, 550 E. Lancaster Ave., Radnor Township:
• Walk-in freezer in the deli area is not operational, used as dry storage.
• Dried milk residue present on retail area milk refrigerator shelving. Dried debris present on the dairy walk-in cooler walls and ceiling. Dust accumulation present on dairy walk-in cooler fan covers.
• Dried food debris and dirt present on the produce prep area flooring. Dried mouse droppings present behind pallets in the rear storage area.
• Flooring and walls are not smooth and easily cleanable.
PJ Whelihan’s Pub, 4803 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square:
• Food storage containers (white bulk bins) are not labeled.
• Linens are in direct contact with food, apron stored on top of packaged hamburger buns.
• In-use utensils are stored incorrectly at cook line. Knives stored in between tables.
• Equipment/utensils are not properly air-dried after cleaning and sanitizing.
• After cleaning and sanitizing all equipment and utensils shall be air dried before use.
• In-use equipment and/or utensils in disrepair (plastic spatulas chipped/cracked).
• In-use equipment and/or utensils in disrepair, facility using single service dip containers to scoop sauce.
• Soil residue present on walkin cooler fan coverings.
Ristorante La Locanda, 4989 West Chester Pike, Edgmont:
• Door being propped without a screen.
Tumble Inn, 910 Chester Pike, Prospect Park:
• Handwashing sink not located in the kitchen area.
• Disposable paper towels not provided at the hand washing sink at bar.
• A sign or poster that notifies food employees to wash their hands is not provided at all handwashing sinks used by food employees.
• Bar soda gun observed with accumulated build up.
• The women’s restroom lacks a covered receptacle for disposal of feminine hygiene products.
Most of the violations are handled on the spot and a few require follow-up visits.
