7 injured in accident; teen in stolen car is arrested

Chester police arrested a 17-year-old boy in the three-car crash that injured seven people Sunday evening in Brookhaven.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at Edgmont Avenue and Brookhaven Road w ith a stolen car instigatin­g it, police said.

Chester officers attempted to stop a 2015 silver Hy unda i Sonata that was confirmed stolen out of Upper Darby Township, but the driver attempted to elude po - lice and was involved in the crash in Brookhaven just a few minutes later, the city said.

Following the accident, the 17-year-old driver was placed into custody.

Police did not publish his name or hometown.

The incident remains under investigat­ion, police said.

When Brookhaven Fire Company Chief Rob Montella arrived at the scene just after 6 p.m., he found one vehicle on fire, one vehicle on its side, and a person trapped in the third vehicle, the department reported in a social media post.

Aston and Mor t onRutledge fire companies assisted Brookhaven and Crozer paramedics as the mass casualty incident required crews to extinguish the fire, stabilize the vehicles, and pop a door on one of the vehicles.

Responding EMS units included Upper Chichester, Concordvil­le/Riddle, Rocky Run Fire Company and Springfiel­d Ambulance.

Radio traffic from the scene at the time reported the ambulances took patients to various hospitals, including at least one to patient to Wilmington.

Further informatio­n on the medical status of the accident victims was not provided.

It was not clear if the youth remained in custody.
