Yachtstock River Jam gets ready to rock Delco’s waterfront Saturday

BROOKHAVEN » To enhance their services and convenienc­e to the community, Elwyn Pharmacy recently moved to a new location, inside the ShopRite store at 5075 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven.

The relocation comes as part of the pharmacy’s ongoing commitment to provide the best possible experience for all their valued new and longtime customers.

Although it has relocated, Elwyn Pharmacy remains an independen­tly owned and operated pharmacy.

More convenienc­e was added, as it is now a one-stop destinatio­n where customers can not only fulfill their prescripti­on needs but they will also have the convenienc­e of the Shoprite grocery store.

The pharmacy will keep the same dedicated staff, and customers will continue to receive the personaliz­ed care and attention that they’ve come to appreciate.

To mark this new chapter, Elwyn Pharmacy will hold a grand opening celebratio­n at the new ShopRite location from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 7.

Yachtstock River Jam set to rock the waterfront

The 25th Annual Yachtstock River Jam happens 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday on Sept. 30 at the West End Boat Club, 500 W. Second St., Essington.

This year’s event will include bands on two stages and will benefit Shriners Hospital of Philadelph­ia and a child in the Delaware County area who is suffering with chronic physical challenges. The nonprofit, all-volunteer-led

Yachtstock is one of the region’s largest outdoor charity music festivals.

The family-friendly event will feature food and drink, vendors, free rides for kids, 50/50 drawing and more. Tickets are $30 at the door; $25 in advance; youth 13-17 are $10; and children 12 and under are free.

Jasper Street Jam closes festival season in Media

The public is invited to join the Media Arts Council at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 for the last Jasper Street Jam of the season, closing out Media’s favorite summer block party.

Music, food, beer and more will be featured at the familyfrie­ndly event. Children under 12 are free.

In May, American Roots Part I opened up the season’s festival and October brings American Roots Part Two to close it.

Music lovers will experience the journey through the rich tapestry of American musical heritage, culminatin­g in a grand celebratio­n of the music that has defined America’s collective musical history.

Entertainm­ent will include Steve Guyger, a blues harmonica legend; Philly Nelson, with all Willie Nelson songs; Gringo Motel, with spaghetti western mariachi surf rock; and Lone Star Review, slow burnin’ New Orleans roots.

Music runs from noon to 6 p.m. Beer will be provided by Aston’s 2SP. Margie’s Cuisine will be serving Colombian street food among other food vendors. Guests can come and go all day long, and if they stop by Brick and Brew in Media, they will get 10% off a meal with their Jasper Street Jam wristband.

The fun takes place on Jasper Street between Jackson and Monroe, right behind MAC at 11 E State St. in downtown Media, all day long. Guests can bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the bands. There will be a pet comfort station, courtesy of Rafferty Subaru, so all well-behaved pets are welcome.

Young artists over 6 years old, can drop-in for an arts class for either session from 1-2 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m., where they will explore printmakin­g techniques on a small sketchbook to be taken home. The class cost is $25 or $20 with a JSJ wristband.

School of Rock Delco will be offering an opportunit­y for youth ages 8-13 of all experience levels to try all the rock instrument­s and jam with the band as part of a “Rock 101” workshop. Tickets are $15 and the workshop runs from 4-5:30 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early to ensure they don’t miss out on this celebratio­n of American Roots music. Tickets to the Jasper Street Jam are $12 in advance, or $15 at the gate, and children 12 and under are free. Norwood UM Church holds kids’ and Christmas consignmen­t sale

Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, will hold its annual Kid’s Stuff Consignmen­t and Christmas Corner Sale, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Items will be offered for half-price from noon to 1 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Little Blessings Christian Preschool.

Amvets Post 118 seeks flea market vendors

AmVets Post 118, 211 N. Morton Ave., Morton, will have a flea market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Vendors are needed. An outdoor space costs $15 and two spaces cost $25. Vendors can bring their own table, chair, water and food.

Free diabetes selfmanage­ment program begins this week

A free evidence-based diabetes self-management program, sponsored by Joseph Dreams Inc., will be offered in Chester, beginning this week.

The compliment­ary workshop

is for people with or at risk for diabetes. It teaches the skills needed in the day-today management of diabetes and is designed to help people gain self-confidence with the ability to maintain and/ or increase life’s activities.

The small group workshops is six weeks long,

meeting once a week for 2½ hours.

The in-person meetings are highly interactiv­e, focusing on building skills, sharing experience­s and offering support.

Participan­ts will learn how to make weekly action plans, as they help one another solve problems that they encounter in creating and carrying out the selfmanage­ment program. To register to participat­e, call

Swarthmore Friends of the Arts presents exhibit by DelVal Art League

Swarthmore Friends of the Arts will present the original artwork by artists from the Delaware Valley Art League.

The exhibit will be on display through October at Swarthmore Borough

Hall. The free opening reception is 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6.

As guests stroll through town for First Friday, they can stop by borough hall, meet the artists, and enjoy compliment­ary refreshmen­ts and hors d’oeuvres.

The art league has been promoting interest, skill, and creativity in the fine arts for over 75 years.

It is nonprofit cultural organizati­on of profession­al artists operating with a volunteer board of

directors and support committee.

DVAL exists to promote interest in the fine arts within the community and to advance the skill and creativity of its members.

The organizati­on offers monthly meetings, October through May, profession­al demonstrat­ions and workshops in a variety of mediums, and the opportunit­y for full members to exhibit their art at various venues.
