Jones, McGroarty help Sun Valley to sweep

Jenna Jones and Shannon McGroarty were excellent Tuesday as Sun Valley became the third volleyball team in District 1 Class 3A to reach double digits in victories with a 3-0 decision over Downingtow­n West.

Jones accumulate­d 14 assists, 18 kills and 12 digs, while McGroarty supplied 17 assists, nine kills, and eight digs for the Vanguards (103) in the Ches-Mont League match. Gwen Abnett and Caroline Cisco protected the front line with two blocks apiece and libero Olivia Hoy racked up 14 digs.

In the Inter-Ac League: AGNES IRWIN 3, SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY 1 » The Owls flourished at the net behind Madison Born (seven blocks), Merisa Harder (six blocks), Audrey Comly (five) and Priya Johnson (three). Raelyn Zelke led the attack with six kills.

In the Catholic League: CARDINAL O’HARA 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1 » The Lions survived a couple of injuries and a dropped first set thanks to 21 kills, 29 digs and 15 assists from Jasmine Sullivan. Kerigan Patterson added 12 kills, 14 digs and three aces.

Julia Riley anchored the defense with 32 digs, and Bridget O’Reilly added 30 assists for the Lions (10-1, 4-1), who prevailed 24-26, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22.

In the Del Val League: CHICHESTER­3,ACADEMYPAR­K 0» Carley Leonard, Morgan Wood and Riley Harris (three aces) all registered eight kills to lead the Eagles to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-5 sweep. Eleni Merrin added 16 kills and two aces. Molly Garcia chipped in three digs and five aces.

In nonleague action: UPPER MERION 3, STRATH HAVEN0» Jillian Surkis produced 12 kills and Lauren McGinn added seven kills and three aces in a losing effort for the Panthers. Aislin O’Neill led the defense with 15 digs and three aces.

Field Hockey

Saylor Milone and Casey McCormick scored two goals each in Notre Dame’s 6-0 win over Episcopal Academy.

Maeve McGinley and Kiera Sack contribute­d a goal for the Irish. Mia McCloskey and Alex Duff combined for the shutout in the cage.

Elsewhere in the Inter-Ac League:

AGNESIRWIN­7,PENNCHARTE­R 1» Caroline Chisholm showed the way for the Owls with four goals. Ali Gerber tossed in a goal and an assist, while goalie Sara Davis had one save.

In the Central League:

Caroline Cassidy, Darcy Quaile and Lauren Cascarina tallied a goal apiece for the Fords.

Geena Augello converted a penalty stroke, and Macy Gougler also scored for the Cougars.

Solo goals from Cait Senjow, Ally Decker, Sam Flemming and Alexa Bair propelled the Green Raiders past the Aces. Elise Martin (three saves) earned the shutout.

Girls Cross Country

Mary Rossaro placed first with a time of 21:34 as

Notre Dame bested Episcopal Academy, 22-33, and Springside Chestnut Hill, 15-43, in an Inter-Ac League tri-match.

Kendra Williamson (21:34) finished in second place for the Churchwome­n. Notre Dame’s Kara Sweeney took third place in 21:55, EA’s Hannah Todd was third in 21:56, and Carson Tierney of Notre Dame rounded out the top five in 22:35.

Also in the Inter-Ac: AGNES IRWIN 16, BALDWIN 47 » Avery Brennan broke the tape as the Owls earned the top four spots in the dual meet.

Brennan was followed by teammates Blair Fox, Paloma Cordova and Maggie Dooley, as Agnes Irwin earned seven of the top eight spots.

Golf

Mike White carded a 38 to pace Springfiel­d to a 203212 victory over Penncrest at Glen Mills Golf Course.

Bobby Marker and Trent Graci both had 40s for the Cougars.

Boys Soccer

Cam Woolard scored in the final minute of regulation, then added the overtime winner as Garnet Valley topped Upper Darby, 3-2.

Patrick Duffy scored in the first half for the Jags against the Royals, who led twice.

Also in the Central League RADNOR 7, MARPLE NEWTOWN 0 » Michael Savadove and Nate Lucchesi scored twice each as the Raptors romped to victory.

Brayan Chavez dished two assists. Jack Bowman, Tommy Goldstein and Erik Mortenson added goals.

In nonleague action: EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 3, HUN SCHOOL 0 » Goals by Michael McGonagle, Dylan Unruh and Alex Barrist led the Churchmen to the win.
