Police: Delco student in rampage told couple they were ‘going to die’

-

A Penn State student was arrested Friday, accused of assaulting a husband and wife after breaking into their State College home in the middle of the night.

Aidan J. Malley, 20, Wallingford, repeatedly told the family they were “going to die” after he awakened them about 1:30 a.m. Friday, borough police wrote in an affidavit of probable cause.

Malley kicked in the front door and smashed a glass pane of the home in the 1000 block of Metz Avenue, police wrote. At least one of the homeowners was awakened by Malley screaming and found him marching back and forth, police wrote.

The husband told an officer Malley punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground twice and threw him against a wall. He had abrasions on his face and leg, as well as dried blood on his face, arms and shirt, police wrote.

The wife told police she called 911 and ran to the living room to keep Malley away from her children. She was struck on the side of her head, had a large red mark on her cheek and blood on her clothing, police wrote.

Malley was arrested less than a halfmile away from the home. He had lacerations on his head, hands and legs. He was transported by Centre LifeLink EMS and police to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

No defense lawyer was listed. An email left with Malley’s university email account was not immediately returned. A man matching Malley’s description is listed on the university’s men’s rugby team.

“We are aware of this reported incident. This individual has been prohibited from coming onto campus or participating in any class, activity, or program at the university as the Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response reviews the incident and determines appropriate next steps,” university spokeswoman Lisa Powers wrote in an email Monday. “The university may take stu

dent conduct action in addition to, and separate from, the charges filed by State College Borough Police.”

He was charged with one felony count each of burglary and criminal trespass.

He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple assault, one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief and two summary counts of harassment.

Malley was released Friday from the Centre County Correctional Facility after posting $50,000 bail, which was set by District Judge Allen Sinclair.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 4.
