Bills-Chargers game on Peacock commercial free in fourth quarter
Saturday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers already carried significance as the first NFL game to be exclusively streamed on Peacock.
The matchup will also feature another milestone as NBC and the NFL announced Thursday morning that the fourth quarter will be commercial free for the first time.
NBCUniversal says there will be a 40% reduction in the standard ad time for an NFL game which should result in at least 12 additional minutes of game-related content.
Rob Hyland, the coordinating producer for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” said there have been discussions about this game since
June about how to make it unique and distinct from a regular NBC broadcast.
“The limited stoppages are exciting for me as someone that wants to tell the story of the game and have the time to do it,” he said.
Jets QB Zach Wilson still out
New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson remained in the concussion protocol Thursday and hasn’t participated in practice this week, making it more likely Trevor Siemian will start Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett certainly sounded as though he was preparing to have Siemian under center.
“We have to look at all the different things
Trevor’s comfortable with that we can get going this week,” Hackett said.
Two R.I. men charged with assault and battery in death of Pats fan
Two Rhode Island men have been charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct by Foxborough Police in connection with the recent death of a fan at a New England Patriots game.
John Vieira, 59, and Justin Mitchell, 39, both of Warwick, R.I., were charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct earlier this month after investigators said they punched Dale Mooney, 53, of Newmarket, N.H.
Mooney was struck during an altercation at the Sept. 17 game, which ended in a 24-17 win by the visiting Miami Dolphins, investigators said. Mooney was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Criminal complaints filed earlier this month said both Vieira and Mitchell “did assault and beat Dale Mooney.”
Allen will miss 2nd straight game
NFL receptions leader Keenan Allen will miss his second straight game due to a heel injury. The Los Angeles Chargers declared Allen out Thursday for their Saturday home game against Buffalo.
Allen leads the league with 108 catches, a Chargers single-season record, and is fourth in yardage (1,243).
