DiCaro surpasses 1,000, pushes Widener to win

Anthony DiCaro scored 13 points Saturday, surpassing the 1,000-point mark in his career, as Widener won its fifth straight game with a 95-71 victory over Alvernia.

Dominic Dunn led the Pride (20-3, 10-2 MAC Commonweal­th) with 15 points, while Steven Matlack scored 13 and Kevin Schenk had 12 points.

For Alvernia (15-8, 7-5), Kyle Gordon and Nigel Cooke scored 12 points each.

Arnel Lewis connected on a three-pointer with 33 seconds remaining to break a 7373 tie as the Local Lions dropped a tough one.

Brandywine had three possession­s during the last half-minute, but PSU missed a pair of threepoint attempts and also turned the ball over. Jaedon Copper scored 24 points and chalked up 13 rebounds, while Lewis scored 22 points for Lehigh.

For Brandywine, Joey Brusha scored 19 points off the bench in only 23 minutes. Colin Hockenbroo­k scored 14 points and A.J. Dreger added 12.

EASTERN 93, HOOD COLLEGE 84 » Jaron Fairweathe­r scored 39 points and added 10 rebounds as Eastern improved to 16-7, 8-4 in the MAC Commonweal­th.

Zubair Lee and Nick Mate scored 10 points each for Eastern, while Garrison Linton led Hood with 14 and Garrett Cox added 12. SWARTHMORE 75, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 50 » Vinny DeAngelo (Sun Valley All-Delco) led the way for the Garnet with 23 points, helping to boost them to 15-8 and 12-4 in the Centennial Conference.

Michael Caprise scored 15 points and Nyle Coleman added 10 for Swat. Kevin Nowoswiat was high for the Diplomats with 17.

The Fords (4-19, 1-15 Centennial) trailed the 20th-ranked Blue Jays (18-5, 14-2 Centennial) by 10 with 5:11 to go.

Gavin Marr hit a jumper to pull Haverford within one at 6867 with 32 seconds left. The Fords had a chance to tie with five seconds left, but couldn’t get a shot off before time expired. CHRISTENDO­M 82, WILLIAMSON SCHOOL OF TRADES 73 » No details were available.

Mia Robbins produced 22 points and eight rebounds as Widener extended its win streak to six games with a 67-45 decision over Alvernia.

Lindsay Kutz paired six points with nine rebounds, while Jordan D’Ambrosio (Springfiel­d) chipped in eight points for the Pride (19-4, 9-3 MAC Commonweal­th). EASTERN 57, HOOD 44 » Wynter Bess provided one of two doubledoub­le performanc­es by the Eagles (8-14). Bess, an Archbishop Carroll product, posted 13 points and 12 rebounds. Taryn Woodson finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Jeriyah Johnson closed with 15 points, six boards and four assists.

Nora Wingfield scored 17 points to help the Garnet improve to 11-12, 9-9 in the Centennial Conference.

Ably assisting in the Swat effort was Dana Bandurick, who scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. For the Diplomats (10-13, 5-13), Ally Trebelev was high with 10 points.

NEUMANN 57, MARYWOOD 47 » Lauren Klieber helped the Knights (157) to their third consecutiv­e win with 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Emily DuPoint provided 13 points, eight boards and six helpers, while Terea Hunt had eight points, six rebounds and four steals.

A disastrous outing for Delco’s Lions, who shot 23.8 percent (19-of-80) from the floor and committed 34 turnovers.

Brandywine (11-10, 9-6 PSUAC), which allowed at least 20 points in every quarter and was outrebound­ed, 57-34, had won four straight games.

Interboro grad Amanda Floyd accrued 17 points and 12 rebounds. Athena Brombacher tossed in 12 points and Kaitlyn Johnson (Upper Darby) tallied 10.

VILLANOVA 55, MARQUETTE 52 » Villanova’s Bella Runyan helped reverse a four-point deficit with just 2:06 remaining in the third quarter by scoring the final eight points of the quarter.

That helped the Wildcats to go on and capture a road victory over Marquette (18-6, 7-6 Big East) on Saturday.

But it wouldn’t be easy for the Wildcats (15-8, 8-4). The Golden Eagles ran off seven straight early in the fourth quarter, taking a 46-42 lead. But then Lucy Olsen scored five straight herself, pushing the Wildcats back into the lead.

Both teams went cold after that, but the Wildcats held strong at the end for the victory.

Olsen led the way with 19 points while Runyan added 13. For Marquette, Mackenzie Hare scored 16 points and Jordan King added 13.

PRINCETON 67, PENN 54 » Jordan Obi amassed 17 points and nine rebounds, but the Quakers (11-9) fell to the No. 24 Tigers (18-3). Ese Ogbevire supplied 16 points in the loss.

Katelyn Chen poured in 20 points and dished out five assists for Princeton.

DUQUESNE 57, LA SALLE 52 » Jolene Armendariz racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds, but that wasn’t enough for the Explorers (7-16).

Molly Mascianton­io (Archbishop Carroll) contribute­d five points and seven assists in the losing cause.
