FBI offers $250,000 reward for Top 10 fugitive capture
Alexis Flores is wanted in 2000 murder of 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a Honduran national accused in the July 2000 strangulation of a 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia.
Alexis Flores, 48, is accused of killing Iriana DeJesus, who was found in an apartment on Aug. 3, 2000, according to information previously provided by the FBI.
The girl had last been seen July 29, 2000, with a man identified as “Carlos,” who told people he was from Honduras and looking for work, as well as a place to stay.
A local handyman provided “Carlos” with lodging, a job and some clothing, one piece of which was found at the crime scene with blood on it. Police spoke with the handyman, who identified the bloody shirt, but “Carlos” was nowhere to be found.
Flores — who also goes by “Mario Flores,” “Mario Roberto Flores,” “Mario F. Roberto,” “Alex Contreras,” and “Alesis Contreras” — was linked to the crime following an arrest in Arizona on a felony forgery charge for providing police fake identification when they checked on a noise complaint in 2005.
Flores was deported to Honduras following that charge, but his DNA was uploaded to a national database that included evidence from the Philadelphia murder. That resulted in a match in March 2007.
Flores was charged with kidnapping and murder in Philadelphia. A federal arrest warrant was also issued for flight to avoid apprehension and he was added to the FBI’s 10 most wanted list in June 2007.
Flores is described as a Hispanic male weighing 130 to 140 pounds, standing about 5’4” with black hair and brown eyes. He has scars on his forehead and right cheek, with a mole on his left cheek.
Anyone with information on Flores’ whereabouts is urged to contact the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov. Tipsters can also reach out to their local FBI field office, or the nearest American embassy or consulate.
