Colon cancer awareness focus of courthouse event

- Daily Times

The Delaware County Health Department in collaboration with the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and Jefferson Health, hosted its Strollin’ Colon event in front of the county courthouse to mark Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

The centerpiece of the event was an inflatable walk-thru tunnel designed to raise awareness about the importance of colorectal cancer prevention and screening, the county said.

Visitors of all ages walked through the replica of the human colon and learned about colorectal cancer prevention, signs, and symptoms in a fun and accessible manner, the health department added.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the importance of early detection through regular screening, as well as engage with health professionals to address any questions or concerns they had about colorectal cancer, the county said.

“We are thrilled with the turnout and enthusiasm from our community for the Strollin’ Colon event,” said Delaware County Health Department Director Melissa Lyon in a press release. “By providing a fun and informative experience, we hope to empower individuals to prioritize their colon health and take proactive steps towards prevention.”
