GV’s Gordon tames Upper Darby with 15-strikeout no-hitter

Garnet Valley’s Nick Gordon was untouchabl­e on the mound Saturday The senior left-handed pitcher threw a nohitter with 15 strikeouts in a 10-0 victory at Upper Darby. Gordon allowed only one walk.

Brady Thompson paced the Jaguars (3-1-1, 2-0) at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Harrison Maull ripped two doubles and drove in two runs, while Mark Zuppo went 2-for-3 with two walks, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Jack Krautzel, Eddie Cwiertniew­icz and Joe Anzalone all had a pair of base knocks.

Elsewhere in the Central League: STRATH HAVEN 3, RADNOR 0 » Caden Shuster twirled a gem over six innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two, and Zane Malarkey recorded the save for the Panthers (60, 3-0). Matt Caputo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs out of the nine hole, and Malarkey walked twice and knocked in a run.

Teddy Monahan had the lone hit for the Raptors (2-4, 0-3).

In the Catholic League:

Reliever Padraig McManus struck out seven in four innings to earn the win for the Lions (2-1).

Brendan Till, Kevin McGuire and Nate McMullen all had two hits for the Lions, who scored all six of their runs in the fifth inning. Jack Quinn picked up the save.

In the Ches-Mont League:

WEST CHESTER EAST 6, SUN VALLEY 0 » The Vikings tallied five runs in the second inning and never looked back.

Paul Miazza pitched 3.2 scoreless frames with two strikeouts for the Vanguards.

In nonleague games:

PENN CHARTER 7, BONNER & PRENDERGAS­T 2 » Quinn Bryan was 2-for-3 with a double, but the Friars dropped their season opener. Ryan Friel and Joey Graziani each drove in a run.

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 7, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 0 » Tyler Beaulieu and Jake Virbitsky each doubled but the Churchmen (10-1) lost for the first time.

Jaidyn Rivera and Connor Scanlan had the only hits for the Fords (7-3-1).

Girls Lacrosse

Hilary Elsner registered three goals, two assists, three draw controls, two ground balls and an intercepti­on in Haverford’s 8-7 victory over West Chester East.

Annie Walker and Maddie Shafer scored two goals apiece, Chloe Taylor had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, and goalie Lucy McCloskey stopped 10 shots for the Fords.

Chloe Bleckley scored four goals as the Patriots (4-0) pounded the Wildcats. Kate O’Neill (two assists) and Claire Sexton posted hat tricks.

Four goals each from Mia Raucci and Taylor Halloran showed the way for the Jaguars, who outscored the Bulldogs, 4-0, in the fourth quarter.

Mariyn Dwyer led the Owls in defeat with three goals.

Boys Lacrosse

Gabe Broome (two assists), Joe Oyre and Deaglan Hogarth all collected two goals to help lead Strath Haven to a 9-4 victory over Upper Merion.

Owen Jamieson chipped in a goal and 11 faceoff wins for the Panthers. Jared Craig supplied a goal and an assist.

Dillon DiBattista dominated with five goals and three assists for the Lions.

Ryan Crowley (two assists), Christian McNichol (two assists) and Connor Bray tallied hat tricks. Peyton Gomez was 25for-31 on faceoffs and totaled 11 ground balls. Goalie Nick Hanna made 16 saves.

Finn Lawrence registered four goals and one assist and Jack Long and Connor Nolen each netted a hat trick for the Fords.

Ben McCarthy won 14 of 23 faceoffs and logged seven ground balls. Aydan DiRocco added three assists and six grounders.

Boys Tennis

Kasier Zhao and Graeme Herbert triumphed in singles competitio­n as The Haverford School defeated Penn Charter, 6-1.

Ian Rosenzwig and RJ Neilly cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third doubles for the Fords.
