Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast March 3

The 32nd annual Troy Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. March 3 at First Place Christian Center, 16 W. Franklin St.

The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Charles Carnes, pastor of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Troy. The title of his message is “The Greatest Love.”

The breakfast will be catered by Night Sky Coffee House in Troy. Ticket sales will be limited to 100.

Municipal and county court judges took the oath of office Wednesday after being elected to leadership positions by the membership of their associatio­n.

Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton conducted the swearing-in ceremony during the group’s annual three-day winter meeting. The 2012 officers of the Associatio­n of Municipal/county Judges of Ohio included Fairborn Municipal Court Judge Beth W. Root, who was named second vice president.

Nomination­s wanted for XCS Hall of Fame

The committee selecting the 2012 class of the Xenia Community Schools Athletic Hall of Fame seeks nomination­s for that honor.

Forms will be available starting today at Nick’s Restaurant, Trophy Sports Center, Perkins, Key Chrysler, Frisch’s Big Boy, Applebee’s, Alan Besco Cars and Trucks, Roosters Wings and AllSports. Forms also will be available on the Xenia High School athletic website and the XHS website.

Those eligible are any graduate from Xenia Central High School, Xenia High School, Xenia East High School or Spring Valley High School who has been out of school for at least five years.

Forms must be picked up by Feb. 17 and turned in by March 2.

Spring search set for Saturday at Narrows

Greene County Parks & Trails naturalist­s will lead a search for signs of spring at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road in Beavercree­k.

Participan­ts will look for signs in nature that spring is coming. Hikers may be able to view a skunk cabbage, the first wildflower to bloom in our area, during this late winter walk.

City receives financial reporting award

The City of Xenia has received the Certificat­e of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Associatio­n for the 2010 Comprehens­ive Annual Financial Report. This is the 28th consecutiv­e year the city has received this award.

The Certificat­e of Achievemen­t is the highest form of recognitio­n in government accounting and financial reporting.

Finance Director Mark Bazelak thanked the mayor and City Council and the entire city staff, in particular Assistant Finance Director Ryan Duke and the Finance Department staff.

Kroger stores donate Coinbox proceeds

The Cincinnati/dayton Division of Kroger presented the proceeds from the 2011 Third Quarter Coinbox Program collection­s on Feb. 2.

In the third quarter of each year, each of the seven districts chooses organizati­ons who serve the surroundin­g area to benefit from Coinbox collection­s. Kroger’s Corporate Office makes the determinat­ion for the other three quarters.

Among the stores hosting the check presentati­on was the Kroger at 1700 West Park Square in Xenia.

The organizati­ons benefiting from that store are Central State University and USO.
