The father of injured Miamisburg High School boys basketball player Austin Mccoy said his son underwent successful facial surgery on Wednesday.

However, the fallout from last Friday’s brawl at Fairborn has been extended to both programs.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association informed both teams that everyone who initially was given a one-game suspension for leaving the bench will have to sit out a second game. That is in compliance with the National Federation of State High School Associations rules, which oversees the OHSAA.

Seven Fairborn players and two from Miamisburg were cited.

In addition, Fairborn senior Billy Jackson has been dismissed from the team. Jackson drew two technical fouls in the game, which resulted in an automatic twogame suspension.

“Friday was a piece of that, but it wasn’t the total story,” Fairborn coach Nathan Chivington said of Jackson. “There were a lot of things that happened prior and some things that even happened after his second technical that led to that decision.

“It was not a decision that we wanted to make, but the administration and myself felt it was best for the program.”

Mccoy, a junior center, was hit in the face by a Fairborn student who left the stands midway through the fourth quarter after Mccoy and several other players dove for a loose ball. His father said he underwent surgery at Sycamore Hospital on Wednesday. He will not play again this season.

A Fairborn student identified as punching Mccoy has been suspended and faces expulsion. Fairborn prosecutors are reviewing the incident to determine if a charge of assault is warranted.

On Wednesday, visiting Fairborn students and members of the girls basketball team presented five life-sized get-well cards to Miamisburg players and administration prior to their game.

Miamisburg Athletic Director Tom Hathaway said Fairborn students have sent emails to school officials expressing their remorse.

“There has been sportsmanship expressed on this thing,” Hathaway said. “There has been a showing of concern by the students and families of both districts.”

Fairborn (10-5) has promoted seven reserve players to the varsity. The revamped Skyhawks stunned Troy on Tuesday, 81-58. Fairborn is at Trotwood-madison today.

Miamisburg (9-6) beat Bellbrook 55-37 on Tuesday and is at Lebanon today.

“I know that it’s been tough on a lot of people,” Chivington said.

“God says that He won’t give you more than you can handle. I’m actually leaning on Him quite a bit during this period.” Contact this writer at (937) 225-2381 or mpendleton@ Daytondailynews.com.
