Urbana topples Greenon, KR wins

-

Greenon was determined not to be beaten by Urbana’s highscoring Trischa Lacy in Monday night’s Division II girls basketball sectional semifinal at Xenia. Lacy rarely had room to shoot and scored only four points, but she threw a pass to Katelyn Derr that made the difference.

Fourth-seeded Greenon had tied the score with 40 seconds left to complete a comeback from nine down in the final two minutes. Then from high on the left wing, Lacy spotted Derr alone underneath the basket for a two-point lead with 21 seconds left.

“They did a great job and we didn’t do a great job in the last four minutes,” Urbana coach Bill Moss said. “We didn’t get our shooters to the foul line. But give our kids credit. They hung in there.”

Lacy averaged 34.4 points in the past five games for No. 6 Urbana, but Greenon switched on screens and played box-andone when Lacy’s backcourt mate Kaley Moss was not in the game. The strategy kept Lacy silent until four late free throws, and it might have worked had Derr not scored a career-high 20 points, including nine in the fourth quarter.

Moss and Christy Finney both scored 11.

Kenton Ridge 77, Benjamin Logan 62: Lindsey Fenwick and Mariah Harris made consecutive 3-pointers in the middle of the third quarter to give the Cougars the breathing room they needed to fight off Benjamin Logan.

Second-seeded Kenton Ridge (19-3) forced 21 turnovers and scored 12 second-chance points. Fenwick and Harris led five Cougars in double figures with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Jessica Yoder made four 3-pointers and led the Raiders with 24 points.

Kenton Ridge plays Urbana in the sectional final 11 a.m. Saturday at Xenia.

Centerville 55, Miamisburg 24: Centerville led by just six points late in the third quarter but closed the game out with a 25-0 run. Junior guard Alex Henning scored 15 points to lead the Elks (18-4), who advance to take on Fairborn in the Division I sectional final at Lebanon on Saturday at noon.
