Taser used to arrest car thief suspect

Officers used a Taser to subdue a man who was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. inside Club Envy, 212 S. Ludlow St., according to Dayton police records.

After a fight spilled out of the club into the streets, the 20-year-old suspect was observed by officers getting into a reported stolen 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix parked in the fenced lot next to the club, according to records. When police confronted him, the suspect fled into the club and was combative when officers caught up to him, police said.

One officer deployed a Taser two times to get the suspect in handcuffs, police said.

Before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail, the suspect was taken to Grandview Hospital, where he was treated and released into police custody, according to records.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from a car dealership in the 5500 block of West Third Street. at the manager and stated: “give me everything,” according to Dayton police records.

When the cash register didn’t open immediatel­y, the black male became agitated and cocked the gun, police said. When the drawer opened, the suspect dumped the money from the cash register tray into a white laundry bag then fled the scene, police said.

Officers searched the neighborho­od but did not locate the suspect.

Police said the store’s surveillan­ce footage is being reviewed by investigat­ors.
