The building that housed the historic Peerless Mill restaurant in Miamisburg will spring back to life Friday when Star City Brewing Company opens to the public, the same day a second local brewpub, Eudora Brewing Company, in Kettering, is also scheduled to open.

Star City, 319 S. Second St., hosted a “soft opening” last weekend and is poised to host its grand opening from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, and will be open 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Eudora, at 4716 Wilmington Pike, also hosted a soft opening and will be open to the public from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Star City and Eudora are among 14 brewery or brewpub projects either open or under development in the Dayton area, including Hairless Hare in Vandalia, which opened two weeks ago. After this weekend, nine of the 14 businesses will be open. One of the breweries still in the works, Lucky Star Brewery, will be located a block away from Star City in Miamisburg, giving the city a budding “brewery district” of sorts.

Miamisburg officials were pleased when Star City’s brewery project was announced earlier this year, saying the 14,000-square-foot building that housed the former Peerless Mill had become a target for vandals and was in danger of becoming an eyesore. The Peerless Mill served meals to generations of Miami Valley residents, operating for nearly eight decades at 319 S. Second St. before closing in 2008.

The Eudora brewery’s “brew-your-own” component — which will allow customers to choose ingredients and a recipe and brew their own beers — is not yet operational, but is scheduled to be up and running early next year, the brewery’s founders said.
