Bailey, Cueto make strides on mound

-

Homer Bailey, continuing to work his way back from offseason elbow surgery, pitched three innings against the Dodgers’ Class AAA team Friday, allowing a run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

“We were able to get our three innings in under 45 pitches, bounce back between innings fairly well,” Bailey told reporters. “Things were on the right track.”

“I thought he looked terrific,” manager Bryan Price told MLB.com.

Bailey will start the season on the disabled list.

Johnny Cueto, meanwhile, in his first mound appearance since March 15, threw 60 pitches over five innings against the Dodgers’ Class AA team. He allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out four and walking none.

Cueto, who had been with his mother in the Dominican Republic as she underwent open-heart surgery, remains on schedule to start the season opener April 6 against Pittsburgh.

“He threw all his pitches for strikes, a lot of balls in play on the ground. I thought he threw the ball very well,” Price said.
