STUDENT VOICES | FAIRMONT HIGH SCHOOL

-

We asked Fairmont High School seniors for some favorite memories and to reflect on their senior year and what’s next.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF HAVING ACCOMPLISHED AT FAIRMONT?

Jacob Maloney: “I serve as commissioner of spirit and this year, especially, we have been able to give re-birth to a strong sense of spirit at Fairmont. Since I play basketball, I got to see firsthand how the student section just came together to support the team at all of the games, but most memorably, at the Alter game, where a remarkable show of support is really what drove us to win that game.”

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A FRESHMAN COMING INTO FAIRMONT?

Olivia Ries: “Have fun with everything you do and have no shame. Don’t be afraid to be yourself, to laugh at yourself and to meet and care about people who are different than you are.”

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING OR FUNNIEST MOMENT WHILE AT FAIRMONT?

Maggie Lowden: “One day, it had been snowing all night and it was really cold. There was ice in the parking lot, so I was taking it slow getting from my car into school. The floors are tile as you enter the building, and my shoes were wet and I just ate it. I slipped and fell, and everyone was standing around waiting for school to start so I just had to own it. There was nothing I could do but get up and kind of laugh it off!”

Ethan Hosford: “Stuffing my face in front of everyone at the Class Council Winter Retreat. We were having a cookie eating contest and it was me against my brother, and I ate 12 cookies in under two minutes. Everyone was laughing, and I was trying not to choke on all those cookies, and it was just hilarious. When I decided to get involved in Class Council this year, it was the best decision of my life!”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF YOUR TIME AT FAIRMONT?

Cydney Richards: “My first football game. Everyone knew I was new to Fairmont: I didn’t come here until my sophomore year – and they were so nice to me. They invited me to the game and showed me around, and I felt so welcomed. Fairmont is a very inclusive school, and people care about each other. I’ve just had a great experience here.”

Lexi Braaksma: “My Senior Night against Alter. I cheer for the basketball team and our guys had a great season. I’ll never forget that night ... watching the last-minute winning basket ... everyone running onto the court ... lots of tears. It was just amazing!”

WHAT DID YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR YEARS AT FAIRMONT?

Sophie Kerivan: “There is such a big difference between middle school and high school. There is a lot more independence when you get to high school, and I really liked being responsible for my own destiny. Fairmont is a very connected school with a big variety of people and lots of choices of things you can get involved in. Getting involved in Class Council and other clubs helped me make some great friends that I will never forget.”
