DiCaprio, Ruffalo campaign for energy
— Leonardo DiCaprio NEW YORK and Mark Ruffalo have teamed up in a bid to widen access to clean energy.
The movie stars launched “100%,” a campaign aimed at making energy from renewable sources available to everyone — and making it affordable.
DiCaprio has spent much of the last few years toward environmental and animal conservation efforts. At Thursday’s event, the actor said the clean energy movement was no longer about politics, but humanity.
“This is a grassroots people’s movement but the ambition of this movement is absolutely revolutionary. Clean energy grows local economies,” he told the crowd.
The event was held at a community garden in New York City. Musicians and dancers entertained the crowd while a solar-powered pizza truck provided food. A solar powered cell phone charging station was also available.
Ruffalo — a co-founder of the campaign — called it a “serious issue.” original and she’s a fighter and she speaks to a whole, new generation.”
The 22-year-old Cyrus is an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community and has said she has had relationships with men and women.
She’s also launched a new campaign on Instagram where she posts photos of people across the gender spectrum. She brands the photos with the hashtag #InstaPride.
Cyrus arrived at the red carpet with photographer, poet and former contestant on Oxygen’s “The Glee Project,” Tyler Ford.
The Inspiration Gala included a runway show, awards presentation and performance by Mary J. Blige. as guest editor of the July-August issue of More magazine.
“There was a lot of laughter in the room,” said Susan Pocharski, entertainment director of the women’s magazine, who moderated their recent conversation. “They were both incredibly down to earth.”
Streep and Obama have forged a strong path for themselves and their children. Streep, a three-time Academy Award winner, has a record 19 Oscar nominations. Obama, a Harvard-trained lawyer, has tackled issues such as nutrition and support for military families.
Both said they hope to have as much effect on their children’s lives as their mothers had on them.
On newsstands June 23, the issue also includes Obama’s review of “The Light of the World,” a memoir written by friend and poet Elizabeth Alexander. It will be Obama’s third More cover.
