I was driving south of Springfield on Saturday and turned onto East Possum Road. Near the intersection I swerved to avoid ... a dead opossum. I’m glad Jill wasn’t riding shotgun because she’s good for a horror-film scream whenever she spots one of these marsupials — flattened or not.

The Bengals showed off $20 million

Anthony Rizzo, Hisashi Iwakuma, Mike Hauschild. The Cubs first baseman will be in “best catch” shows for years to come after going into the stands to record an out. Rizzo hopped on the tarp atWrigley Field, then ventured into the box seats to snag a foul ball. He didn’t have time for nachos.

Trending down:

Altee Tenpenny, Ray Rice, Michael Lorenzen. Tenpenny, a former four-star recruit with a five-star name, transferred from Alabama to UNLV a few months ago. The running back was kicked off his new teamlast week. Perhaps the lure of The Strip was a bit toomuch for the Arkansas kid.
