Peterson sits out another practice
Adrian Peterson’s successful return from last year’s suspension has brought his seventh Pro Bowl invitation and a chance to lead the NFL in rushing for the third time in his nine-year career.
Peterson’s impact also has the Vikings on the verge of the playoffs.
But Peterson’s availability for Sunday night’s home game against the Giants is in question. Peterson was held out of practice for the second consecutive day as he deals with a sprained left ankle.
Coach Mike Zimmer said he thought Peterson would work Thursday. Peterson participated in the pre-practice stretching, but didn’t practice.
Peterson was injured in the first half of last week’s 38-17 win against Chicago. He saidWednesday that he was “pretty confident I’ll be ready to go.”
Saints: Quarterback Drew Brees said he intends to play Sunday against Jacksonville despite a right foot injury. All he has to do is convince coach Sean Payton, who hasn’t named a starting quarterback for the Saints’ home finale.
Brees says he has a torn plantar fascia ligament, which he says is painful but not too debilitating to prevent him from playing.
The injury occurred during the second quarter of Monday night’s loss against Detroit, but Brees never missed a snap, finishing with 341 yards and three touchdowns.
Bills: Coach Rex Ryan said the team is preparing to play without running back LeSean McCoy, who has an injured right knee.
McCoy, who missed his second straight practice, was hurt in a 35-25 loss at Washington last weekend.
Giants: The team filled Odell Beckham Jr.’s space on the roster by promoting receiver Ben Edwards from the practice squad.
Beckham does not count on the roster because he is suspended for a game for his actions last Sunday against Carolina. His appeal was denied Wednesday.
Falcons: Rookie running back Tevin Coleman was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after slipping in the shower and hitting his head.
Coach Dan Quinn said Coleman was at team headquarters when he fellWednesday. Coleman, a third-round pick from Indiana, did not practice Thursday, but Quinn has yet to rule him out.
Colts: In need of a backup quarterback, the team signed Stephen Morris and placed cornerback D’Joun Smith (knee) on injured reserve. Morris has spent most of the season on Philadelphia’s practice squad.
Andrew Luck has missed five straight games and was ruled out for Sunday as he recovers from a lacerated kidney and a partially torn abdominal muscle. Matt Hasselbeck has started but is dealing with back and rib injuries. Charlie Whitehurst is the only other quarterback on the roster.
