$6 MILLION CAMPAIGN TO FUND DAYTON CHRISTIAN EXPANSION

- By Nick Blizzard

A multimillion dollar expansion plan by Dayton Christian Schools includes a 31,000 square feet addition and more than 550 parking spaces.

The plan is part of a $6 million fundraising campaign that officials said would result in the first gymnasium in the 54-year history of the school, which has located at 9391 Washington Church Road the past 15 years.

The project will also include 578 parking space at the 203,000 square foot facility housing 900 students on 45 acres, said spokeswoman Julie Thompson.

“This is a big deal obviously for the school and the student body,” Thompson said. “Depending on how much were able to fundraise will determine what we’re able to put inside that facility.”

For years, the school’s athletes have had to travel up to 20 miles for home basketball and volleyball games, according to John Gredy, Ed.D., director of development and community relations.

Dayton Christian officials plan today to unveil more details about the gymnasium — to be called the Warriors Center – and the fundraising effort, Thompson said.

Students, faculty and supporters will join together for “Warrior Day,” at which a news conference will be held to unveil 40-day capital campaign, known as “Building for the Future.”

“We’re hoping that it will include amenities that will not only be a place for a basketball players to play, or volleyball players to play,” Thompson said, “..... but also a real place for the school to come together as a community and to strengthen its identity.”

A photo posted Friday morning on the school’s website of crews digging is captioned: “Drilling for soil samples — a first step in building the Warrior Center! #warriorcenter.”
