Brady’s Super Bowl jersey finally found
The mystery of Tom Brady’s missing Super Bowl jersey led police all the way to Mexico, and authorities were investigating a former tabloid newspaper executive’s possible role in the theft.
Police and the NFL announced Monday that Brady’s jersey, which disappeared from the locker room after the Patriots’ 34-28 overtime win over the Falcons last month in Houston, had been found in Mexico. The NFL said the jersey was in “possession of a credentialed member of the international media.”
U.S. and Mexican officials have not yet identified the suspect, and no arrests had been made. Houston police investigators relied on a tip from an informant to trace the jersey, estimated to be worth $500,000, to Mexico.
Bears: Relatives of Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers say the 73-year-old running back has been diagnosed with dementia. His wife, Ardythe Sayers, told The Kansas City Star that her husband was diagnosed four years ago and she blames Sayers’ football career. He played for the Bears for seven seasons starting in 1965 after setting records at the University of Kansas. Sayers rushed for 4,956 yards in his 68-game NFL career and was voted to four Pro Bowls.
Giants: New York signed former Jets quarterback Geno Smith. A second-round draft choice out of West Virginia in 2013, Smith has been a bust after a good rookie season. He missed most of last season after surgery for an ACL injury in October. Smith, 26, has completed 501 of 866 pass attempts for 5,962 yards, 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions in his career. The Giants also signed cornerback Valentino Blake.
Chargers: Offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins and defensive tackle Tenny Palepoi were re-signed to oneyear deals.
Bengals: Linebacker Kevin Minter signed a one-year deal, filling the opening from Karlos Dansby’s departure for Arizona as a free agent.
Redskins: Ty Nsekhe, who started four games at left tackle last season when Trent Williams was serving a suspension, was re-signed.
