Nora Vondrell
has joined the Dayton Rotary Club. Vondrell is the executive director for SICSA Pet Adoption Center and a resident of Dayton.
Jayne Brownell,
Miami University vice president for student affairs, is part of the The ACPA (American College Personnel Association)-College Student Educators International supports and fosters college student learning by generating and sharing information that informs policies, practices and programs for student affairs professionals and the higher education community.
Brownell, who has been at Miami since 2014, was recognized for her passion and commitment to helping struggling students to overcome hurdles; continuing to learn about human growth and development, diversity and inclusion in order to be as effective as possible in promoting student success; and contributing to leadership and professional development in student affairs.
Brownell is also recognized for mentoring graduate assistants and new professionals and for contributing to her field by publishing articles.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s and doctorate from Columbia University.
The City of Dayton and the University of Dayton have announced the recipient of the
Maya Smith-Custer
,a graduating senior at Stivers School for the Arts, is the 30th recipient of the award, which annually supports the education and professional development of a young African-American student.
The award includes a full scholarship to the University of Dayton and a 4-year paid internship with the City of Dayton. Recipients must be committed to the ideals of social justice and demonstrate potential for community leadership.
Custer-Smith’s City of Dayton internship will begin this summer, and she plans to major in International Studies at the University of Dayton.
