The Vectren Dayton Air Show’s Young Eagles contest will allow the winning child to take a plane ride with legendary stunt pilot Sean D. Tucker.
Children between ages 8-17 are invited to enter an essay contest with the theme of “What I imagine by first plane ride will be like,” or “what this flight will mean to me.” Be 8-17 by June 22, 2017 Have never flown in a plane smaller than a commercial plane
Write an essay no less than 100 words and no more than 300 words
Be willing to be interviewed by various media outlets in promotion of the air show
Have a parent/guardian accompany you to the Vectren Air Show on June 22 no later than 9:30 a.m.
Have a parent/guardian must sign a standard Young Eagles waiver on the day of the flight
All entries must be received by Wednesday, May 31 by 5 p.m. on the Vectren Air Show website, www.daytonairshow.com/2015/ young-eagles.
Englewood MetroPark will be one of the first parks in the Miami Valley to be certified as a Best in Ohio Connect to Nature Site by Miami Valley Leave No Child Inside (MVLNCI) and Dayton Regional Green (DRG). This certification is awarded to community organizations, schools, parks, day care centers and places of worship that provide children with opportunities to access green spaces and participate in nature-based activities.
Certified sites will be recognized during an awards presentation at 10 a.m., Monday, April 10 at Springcreek Primary, 145 E. State Route 36, Piqua.
Recreation opportunities at Englewood MetroPark include boating, fishing, cycling, hiking, camping, paddling and more.
Stillwater Prairie Reserve in Miami County and Grant Park also will be certified as a Best in Ohio Connect to Nature Site, along with Springcreek Primary, the first academic facility to be recognized by MVLNCI and DRG for this certification.

Home School Day will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Carillon Park, 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton.
Home School Day is a way for home-schooled students to enjoy hands-on educational activities and programs at Carillon Historical Park. With a 65-acre campus, 30 exhibit buildings, costumed historical interpreters, object theater presentations at the Wright Brothers Aviation Center, carousel rides, and more, Home School Day is fun for the entire family.

The Dayton Gem and Mineral Society (DGMS) will host its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, at the Dayton Diabetes Office, 2555 S. Dixie Drive. All DGMS members and anyone interested in learning about the DGMS are invited and welcome to attend.
The program for this meeting will be an educational presentation by Ray and Amy Birdwell of Birdwell Stone who grow crystalline gemstones using recycled and reclaimed Natural Earth Elements. A short business meeting will follow.
The Victoria Theatre Association chose select students from Charity Adams Earley Girls Academy and Dayton Boys Preparatory Academy to perform for patrons arriving at the Schuster Center to watch a matinee performance of “Motown the Musical” on Saturday from 1 p.m. until showtime at 2 p.m.
Cast members helped the students prepare their songs and each student will receive a ticket to the performance.
