Kettering Health Network is planning an $8 million expansion of its Kettering Cancer Care unit at Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, the Dayton-based health system announced Thursday.

Construction is expected to begin in early June on the first phase of the project, which will double the size of the cancer clinic’s infusion center for chemotherapy patients to 13,000 square feet. In addition, the number of exam rooms at the cancer clinic inside the hospital at 3535 Pentagon Blvd. will more than double from six to 15 when the project is completed in October, according to Kettering officials.

“Because Kettering Cancer Care is experiencing record-breaking volume, network and hospital leaders knew the time was right to enhance our cancer service offerings to residents in the Greene County area,” said Elizabeth Garrison, executive director of cancer services for Kettering Health Network.

The cancer clinic’s medical oncology team is expected to add two to three new doctors as a result of the expansion, which will result in the addition of six to eight total new jobs, according to a Kettering spokeswoman.

Phase two of the expansion will add an 8,300-square-foot suite that will include a linear accelerator for radiation therapy, as well as a CT simulator and scanner. The radiation oncology addition is expected to be completed by May 2018, creating six to eight new jobs, including an additional radiation oncologist, Kettering said.

“We are happy to bring more advanced cancer treatment services to our neighbors in Greene County,” said Rick Dodds, president of Soin Medical Center. “The expansion will allow us to continue providing quality service to those patients currently served by, or potentially to be served by, Kettering Cancer Care at Soin.”

Greene Medical Foundation will provide a $3 million grant to cover part of the cost of expansion.

“The foundation believes it is vitally important that we play a role in the reality of this expansion and addition,” said Jeff Brock, president of Greene Medical Foundation. “We want patients to have the latest cancer treatment technology in a nurturing, compassionate environment that supports whole person care.”
