Bond set in shooting death in Hamilton
Bond has been set at $750,000 for a Hamilton man accused of fatally shooting a Trotwood man in March.
Marquis Hunter, 30, of Short Street, was arrested last month in Atlanta for murder and having weapons under disability.
Police say Hunter was responsible for shooting Jaylen Kinney to death on March 23. Kinney, of Trotwood, was shot on his 24th birthday at the end of Chestnut Street and west Front Street.
Hunter appeared Thursday in Butler County Common Pleas Court with his attorney, Chris Pagan. Judge Keith Spaeth set bond.
Hunter is due back on court for a preliminary hearing on June 16.
A $5,000 reward was offered by police for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible in the fatal shooting.
Hunter has a previous conviction of felonious assault from 2010, according to police.
Several people called 911 the night of a fatal shooting, including residents who said a large crowd had gathered just before shots rang out and a white Toyota sped away from the scene.
One caller reported hearing four shots and seeing several men loitering in the cul-de-sac.
“Somebody got shot, they are putting him in a car,” the woman screamed while on the 911 call.
Hamilton firefighters also called dispatchers to report shots fired in the area just after 11 p.m.
The city’s fire headquarters is located about 1,000 feet from the scene of the shooting.
