The Dayton area has added another brewery, this one on the well-traveled strip of Miamisburg-Centerville Road (Ohio 725) between Centerville and the Dayton Mall.

Heavier Than Air Brewing Co. — located at 497 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in the Normandy Square Shopping Center — opened on Saturday.

Initially, Heavier Than Air will be serving primarily other local breweries’ offerings as it ramps up its own brewing operations.

Brewery co-founder Nick Tarkany Sr. said Heavier Than Air’s tap list this week includes one Heavier Than Air beer — an American pale ale — and brews from Dayton Beer Co., Crooked Handle in Springboro, Lucky Star in Miamisburg, Yellow Springs Brewing, Warped Wing in Dayton, and Toxic Brew Co. in Dayton. A selection from Riegele in Dayton’s sister city of Augsburg, Germany, is also on the list.

The new brewery’s hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. An exterior sign for the brewery is coming soon, Tarkany said.

Heavier Than Air will have a limited food menu and will encourage customers to order delivery or bring food in, Tarkany said.

The brewery will be overseen by Tarkany and his brother Chris Tarkany, with an assist from two of Nick’s sons, Ben and Nick Jr.

Heavier Than Air is the first of three Southwest Ohio breweries to open a two-week period. Lock 27 Brewing will open its new brewery and restaurant Sept. 5 in the Delco Lofts building adjacent to the Dayton Dragons’ Fifth Third Field in downtown Dayton, and Grainworks Brewing Company is scheduled to host a grand opening Sept. 9 in West Chester Twp. in Butler County.
