West Carrollton police under reaccreditation review
National inspectors will conduct 3-day assessment Sunday.
WEST CARROLLTON — National law enforcement inspectors will review the West Carrollton Police Department in the coming week.
The three-day assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. that starts Sunday is part of the police department’s re-accreditation process.
Accreditation by CALEA is widely recognized as one of the high designations law enforcement agencies can earn. West Carrollton first gained accreditation in 1992, according to the city.
The police department needs to comply with 389 standards in order to maintain accredited status, said West Carrollton Police Chief Doug Woodard.
The on-site assessment will include public comments. Agency employees and members of the community can offer comments at a public information session.
That session will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the West Carrollton Civic Center Council Chambers, 300 E. Central Ave.
The police department will also offer a Pizza with Police event from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the YMCA, 900 S. Alex Road.
If an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone by calling (937) 847-4667 from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes, and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.
A copy of the standards is available at the police department, 300 E. Central Ave. West Carrollton, Ohio or by calling Deputy Chief David Wessling at (937) 847-4670.
Written comments can be sent to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, Va., 201556660.
